Greetings, Misa Online adventurers!

We're back with the fourth installment of our Misa Online Dev Notes series! Thank you for the interest you've shown in our previous installments and for the feedback you've shared with us. We continue to bring you new details from our development process.

In this installment, we're unveiling the Demon Dungeon map for the first time and introducing Drakar's Bonebreaker Armor and Nerethis, the Ancient Serpent Queen. We're also sharing the Warrior's revamped skills in our new demo video, captured during development ahead of Pre-Alpha.

Welcome to Misa Online Dev Note #04!

Warrior | Revamped Combat Gameplay Demo

With our new demo video, we're sharing the progress we've made on the Warrior's combat gameplay, which we've been working on for a long time. We carefully reviewed the comments, suggestions, and criticism that followed our previous gameplay video. Your feedback helped us better understand our players' expectations and identify the areas to focus on during development.

Our goal is to create a fluid and consistent combat experience that better reflects the Warrior's strength. We're addressing the feel of attacks, the transitions between moves, and how skills fit into the overall flow of combat as a whole. Our aim is to make every attack feel clearer and more impactful while preserving the character's distinctive fighting style.

In this video, you can take a closer look at the Warrior's revamped basic attacks and several of its skills. Offering a glimpse into our ongoing work, this demo shows where we currently stand with the Warrior's combat gameplay. Those who watched our previous video will also be able to compare the progress between the two showcases.

We'd like to emphasize that the footage we're sharing is from a demo captured during development ahead of Pre-Alpha. Work on the Warrior is ongoing, and the animations, effects, and gameplay details you see in the video may be updated as development continues.

Drakar | Bonebreaker Armor

In this section, we take a closer look at the creation process of the Bonebreaker Armor we designed for Drakar, our gauntlet-wielding character. With this design, we aim to create a rugged and menacing look that reflects Drakar's close-combat identity. Dark surfaces, gold-toned metal pieces, and skull motifs define the armor's visual character.

The skull details repeated on the pauldron, belt, and knees create cohesion across the different pieces of the set. The metal armor concentrated on a single shoulder and the clawed arm design give the character an asymmetrical silhouette. The sharp lines on the gauntlet side in particular are among the defining elements that carry Drakar's aggressive fighting style into the character's appearance.

During the creation process, we approach the armor's overall form, the placement of its pieces, and its surface details together. Separating the dark leather and fabric surfaces from the metal sections makes both the character of the materials and the engravings on them more visible. The gold-toned trims follow the lines of the torso and legs, helping the design read cohesively from every angle.

Work on the Bonebreaker Armor is ongoing. In the images we've shared, you can examine the armor from the front, back, and side, and take a closer look at the details that shape the design. Don't forget to share your thoughts on Drakar's new armor and the details that caught your attention the most!

Nerethis | The Ancient Serpent Queen

Meet Nerethis, the Ancient Serpent Queen, one of the bosses you'll face in the world of Misa Online! In this section, we're sharing the design of Nerethis and the details that shape the character's appearance. With this design, we aim to combine the grandeur of a queen with the menacing look of a serpent.

Nerethis's humanoid upper body merges with a long, scale-covered serpent body to create a distinctive silhouette. The serpents encircling her head and her ornate crown make the character's identity stand out at first glance. The calm expression on her face and her green eyes complete this look, giving Nerethis a confident and unsettling presence.

Gold-toned engravings, emerald-green gems, and purple fabric details make up the Ancient Serpent Queen's color palette. Shapes repeated from the crown to the ornaments on her body tie the different parts of the design together. The long, sharp-tipped weapon she wields also carries the serpent theme through its winding engravings.

During the creation process, we approach Nerethis's overall form, scale texture, attire, and accessories as a whole. From the large body lines to the smallest ornaments, our goal is to create a memorable boss design that retains its identity from every angle.

In the images we've shared, you can examine Nerethis from the front, back, and side, and take a closer look at the Ancient Serpent Queen's design. Don't forget to share your thoughts on her look!

Demon Dungeon | A First Look at the Demon King's Arena

In this section, we're sharing our new dungeon map, Demon Dungeon, for the first time. This map, where the Demon King will emerge, will host the encounter in which players face him. With its lava-surrounded environment, towering rock formations, and wide arena, Demon Dungeon brings the Demon King's fire-bound identity into the design of the space.

At the center of the map stands a circular stone platform rising above the lava. The narrow stone pathway leading to the arena, the deep chasms around it, and the giant chains anchored to the rocks create a menacing atmosphere as you approach. Distant lava flows and the orange light illuminating the surroundings accentuate the outlines of the dark stone structures.

The large seal and glowing symbols on the arena floor form the visual focal point of the encounter area. Jagged rock pillars, weathered stone surfaces, and small fires around it complete the look. With these details surrounding the wide central area, we aim to give the place where players will face the Demon King an identity of its own.

During the map's creation process, we approach the arena layout, environment design, and lighting together. Our goal is to build an environment that conveys the Demon King's power and the threat he poses before the encounter even begins. The balance between the space players move through and the surrounding visual details is also an important part of our work.

In the images we've shared, you can explore the overall structure of Demon Dungeon, the pathway leading to the arena, and the encounter area from different angles.

Are you ready to face the Demon King amid the flames?
