Update v0.3.3.7 – Coastal Foraging & Steam Preparations

Greetings Adventurers,

v0.3.3.7 is now live!

This Steam post combines the changes from v0.3.3.6 and v0.3.3.7, with another round of new content, UI improvements, economy adjustments and quite a bit of work behind the scenes as we continue preparing Guilds of Mountgate for its Steam release.

Coastal Foraging

The beaches around Mountgate now have their own Coastal Foraging activity!

Resources such as Sea Worms and Shellfish have been removed from Driftwood Foraging and are now part of a more fitting coastal gathering experience.

This gives the beaches around Mountgate a little more identity of their own – and creates another foundation that can be expanded as the coastal regions of Vellgar continue to grow.

Processing Overlays Reworked

All Processing Skill overlays have been completely reworked.

The goal here was simple: less clutter, better visibility and a much cleaner overview of what you're currently processing.

Processing is something you interact with constantly throughout the game, so even though this isn't a huge new content system, it should make a noticeable difference during everyday gameplay.

Healthier Local Markets

The market dynamics for Tools, Armor and Weapons have received an important adjustment.

Previously, a single player selling a large quantity of equipment could rapidly push a settlement's prices towards the minimum – affecting the market for everyone else.

Large sales now face stronger diminishing returns for the individual seller, while the settlement itself reacts more gradually.

You can still influence local markets, but a single large sale should no longer suddenly crash equipment prices for an entire town.

Scraps Back Into Leather

Leather Scraps can now be combined back into Leather at a Crafting Bench.

Another small addition, but one that gives leftover production materials a proper use instead of leaving them sitting around indefinitely.

More Steam-Friendly Accounts

For players using Steam, registering an email address is now optional.

The account flow has been adjusted so Steam players can get into the game without being forced through an unnecessary additional registration step.

The Login Queue introduced in preparation for release has also received further fixes.

Less Traffic, More Headroom

A considerable amount of work has gone into the backend during these updates as well.

Several systems have been adjusted to reduce unnecessary bandwidth usage and network requests, helping the game operate more efficiently as the number of simultaneous players increases.

Together with the Login Queue and additional safeguards introduced in v0.3.3.6, this is part of the ongoing preparation for the Steam launch.

Ideally, most of this is stuff you'll never have to think about while playing – and that's exactly the point. 😄

More Fixes & Improvements

Both updates also contain another collection of fixes and smaller improvements.

Spores and Fish Bones are now counted correctly in the Journal, Withdraw and Deposit interfaces correctly display Gold, Silver and Copper, and several scrollbar issues have been addressed.

A rare login problem that could leave players staring at a black screen has also been fixed.

Messages from ignored players should no longer remain visible, Duckweed has received a balancing adjustment, and several smaller UI issues have been cleaned up.

These last updates have had quite a bit going on behind the scenes.

Alongside adding and improving actual gameplay systems, a lot of attention is currently going towards making sure the infrastructure underneath Guilds of Mountgate is ready for more players arriving with the Steam release.

And in the meantime, Vellgar keeps getting a little more detailed.

See you in Vellgar!
