Clutch Legend 1.4 Devlog #6 · Brackets, awards and your first stats

Hi Legends,

1.4 Devlog #6: follow the bracket.

Last time I talked about money: the new Economy screen and the debt plan. Today it's about tournaments, the moment a season ends, and the very first screen of a new career, where you now choose your own starting stats.

The bracket, while you're still in it

Until now, once a tournament started you only knew who you were playing next. Everything else happened off screen. In 1.4, as long as your team is still in the tournament, the Next Match card on the Dashboard has a Bracket button.

It opens the whole draw, and with it the results of every match already played in the tournament: yours and those between the other teams, round by round. You also see your next match highlighted in orange, and the pairings still to be decided, shown as "Winner of" the matches that will produce them. The format of each round, BO1 or BO3, sits next to its name. Once you're knocked out, or the event is over, the button goes away.

So you always know how the other side of the bracket is going, who won, by how much, and who you're likely to meet next. Opening it doesn't simulate anything. You see the results that have actually been played, nothing more.

Open any match

Every completed match in the bracket now has a Match details button, and that includes the matches between AI teams. Inside you'll find the series score and a tab for each map, with both teams' players: avatar, flag, frags, deaths and K/D. Your player is highlighted in orange.

The statistics are recorded after each map, so if you open the same match again later you'll see exactly the same numbers. Matches played before the update still show their result; their individual statistics were never recorded, so I didn't invent them.

It's the part I enjoy most: you can go back and see how the team that knocked you out got there, or who carried the other half of the bracket.

When the tournament ends

The results screen has a new layout too. It uses the same backdrop as the pre-tournament screen, tinted by the event's prestige, so a small Open cup and a Major don't look the same. Champion, final score and runner-up sit together at the top, the MVP and the tournament's EVPs side by side below, then the prizes and the complete bracket with team crests and the lines connecting each round.

The end of the season

The season awards ceremony has been redone. After a short introduction, the six awards are revealed one at a time: MVP, Top Fragger, Breakout Player, Rookie of the Year, Best IGL and Best Support. Each winner has their avatar, flag, team and the statistic that earned them the award. If one of them is you, your card stands out in orange. If an award has no winner that season, it isn't shown.

The Hall of Fame in the main menu has the same look now: your Seasonal and Legacy careers, with their weapon mastery, history and trophies, in panels that are easier to read.

Choose your strengths

This one comes from your reviews: you wanted a say in the player you start with. In 1.4, a new career has a stats step between creating your character and meeting your role.

You get 245 points to spread across Aim, Gamesense, Teamplay, Clutch and Movement. Each attribute stays between 44 and 54, so to push one up you have to lower another: everyone starts with the same budget, it's how you spend it that changes. The page opens on a recommended setup for the role you picked, which you can keep or rework as you like, and your starting role OVR updates as you move the points.

Every attribute has a short explanation of what it does, so you know what you're choosing. Your potential is still decided separately, and from there you grow through training and matches. This applies to new careers; careers already underway are not changed.

Next time

Next time it's Live 2D: CTs that check their angles and go back to their spot after helping a teammate, and a few other changes you'll see in the matches. How much each stat weighs in Live 2D and in simulated matches is still being tuned, so I'll talk about that once the work is finished.

See you soon,

Federico
