GOOD AFTERNOON, STUDENTS OF RECESS!
Please stop running in the hallways, put down whatever you found in the sandbox, and give the announcement speaker your full attention.
The administration has an important update regarding the playground.
Recess has been updated to Version 1.0.6!
This one is a little different. We've fixed some problems, replaced some very important machinery underneath the playground, and spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to convince controllers to behave themselves.
Please remain seated.
The school has officially moved from Unreal Engine 5.3 to Unreal Engine 5.4.
No, we will not be explaining what that means.
What we will explain is why we did it.
One of the biggest things I wanted to improve was local multiplayer controller support. Previously, the game could be a little... particular about which controller was considered Player 1.
And Player 1 has decided they are very important.
With this update, players can now toggle "Skip Player 1" for controllers at runtime.
This means you can choose whether the first controller is used for Player 1 or skipped, allowing local multiplayer setups to work with or without a controller assigned to Player 1.
It took significantly longer to get working than anyone would like to admit.
In fact, it took up most of the development time for this update.
The administration would like to remind everyone that Recess is still being made by one person with a day job.
Please stop asking why it took so long.
Several playground troublemakers have been dealt with.
Previously, going underwater could cause other local players' screens to completely black out.
We aren't entirely sure what the underwater players did to deserve this.
Fixed.
Players could previously be tagged before the round had actually started.
This has been corrected.
You may now enjoy those precious few seconds before the round begins without somebody immediately touching you and ruining everything.
Because we've moved the entire game to a new version of Unreal Engine, there is a possibility that new bugs may have snuck into the playground.
We have tested what we can, but sometimes fixing one thing causes another thing to fall off the swings.
If you encounter something that wasn't happening before, please report it!
And please be patient while I track it down.
I'm still just one person, and I am unfortunately unable to clone myself at this time.
The cloning machine is still in development.
Before anyone starts packing up their backpack:
We're not done.
I still have a lot more I want to add to Recess.
The playground is going to keep growing, with plans for more:
Maps
Game Modes
Cosmetics
Items
Unlockables
General playground nonsense
There are plenty of ideas that haven't made it into the game yet, and I'm still working toward getting them there.
Some things will take longer than others, but I'm still actively working on Recess and continuing to fix, improve, and expand the game.
Recess is a solo-developed game.
That means there isn't a team of programmers sitting in a giant office somewhere waiting for your bug report.
There is, however, one very tired person with a day job who is doing their best.
Sometimes an update will come out quickly.
Sometimes an apparently simple problem will consume an entire week.
Sometimes Unreal Engine will decide that something that worked perfectly yesterday is no longer allowed to work today.
That's game development!
So please keep sending feedback, keep reporting bugs, and most importantly, please be patient.
Every report helps make the game better.
Anyway, that's enough paperwork.
You've been sitting here for far too long.
Go outside.
Go play tag.
Go hide behind a tree.
Go throw something at your friend.
Just don't blame me if the tree is the bug.
RECESS IS STILL IN SESSION.

THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOW OVER.
Please proceed to the playground in an orderly fashion.
Or don't.
We're a little busy fixing the controllers.
