After years of digging, dying, refining, rebuilding, and pushing deeper into the caverns, we’re finally approaching a milestone we’ve all been waiting for: Below the Stone 1.0 is nearly here. With the Combat Update behind us and the foundations of Layers 1 and 2 solidified, the team is now fully focused on delivering the complete Below the Stone experience — the one we envisioned when this journey first began.
The upcoming full release is shaping up to be our biggest update yet. Here’s what the team has confirmed is planned for the 1.0 launch:
Layer 3: the long‑awaited final cavern layer, bringing new dangers, new biomes, and new treasures.
Bosses for both Layer 2 and Layer 3, completing the progression arc from the surface to the deepest depths.
A fully cohesive start‑to‑finish progression, tying together all layers, biomes, crafting tiers, and NPC interactions into a complete adventure.
Many additional improvements and additions, based on community feedback and the team’s long‑term vision for the game.
Below the Stone has been in Early Access since November 2023, and thanks to your feedback, bug reports, wild stories, and countless lost dwarves, the game has grown into something truly special. The developers have now officially announced that Below the Stone will exit Early Access in Summer 2026, releasing on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Windows PC.
This marks the end of Early Access, but not the end of development. 1.0 is the beginning of the “complete” game, not the end of updates.
Your support has carried this project through every biome, every update, every convention, and every setback. The team is small, the game is big, and the community has been the fuel keeping the forges burning. As we've said before, One way or another, we will get past that finish line, and we hope you’ll be with us when we do.
The team’s current plan is to release 1.0 before Summer 2026 ends, and development is in full swing to make that happen.
