Hello everyone! This update focuses on desktop companion stability, application detection, privacy controls, and overall usability.

Desktop Companion Stability

  • Reworked the desktop companion window lifecycle so it can now be fully destroyed and recreated reliably.

  • Improved stability when repeatedly showing, hiding, and reloading the companion.

  • Fixed an issue where mouse or keyboard input could unexpectedly restore a hidden companion.

  • Fixed interaction effects becoming misaligned after hiding and showing the companion.

  • Fixed some effects disappearing when opening the companion’s right-click menu.

  • Fixed unresponsive context-menu actions, persistent transparency, and incomplete shutdowns after interacting with the menu.

  • Fixed part of the companion briefly appearing in the upper-left corner while being restored.

  • Improved synchronization and cleanup across the companion, effects, and settings windows.

  • The main window and desktop companion can now operate more independently: hiding either one will no longer interrupt the other.

Application Presets and Detection

  • Fixed preset changes requiring a Daymark restart before taking effect.

  • All official application presets are now enabled by default for new users.

  • Applications without a preset or custom rule are hidden from usage statistics by default.

  • Adding a rule will reveal and merge previously recorded usage time without losing historical data.

  • Windows system surfaces—including File Explorer, Start, and Windows Search—are now excluded from application tracking and status detection.

  • Improved the layout of presets, custom rules, and the current-application panel.

Application Icons

  • Added Windows application-icon extraction and local caching.

  • Icons can now appear for the current application, usage rankings, immersion records, official presets, and custom rules.

  • Official presets now include built-in icons, so their icons can appear even before the application has been launched or focused.

  • When a native system icon is available, Daymark will prioritize it over the built-in preset icon.

  • Improved icon matching across historical names, localized names, and executable names.

Platform Status and Privacy

For new users, the following options are enabled by default:

  • Public status

  • Share song title

  • Share artist name

  • Share marks to the platform

These defaults are applied only once. Daymark will preserve any changes made afterward. Existing users’ settings will not be modified by this update.

Additional changes:

  • Disabling Public Status now immediately clears the active Rich Presence and prevents all further status publishing.

  • Removed character-based fallback messages when public content is disabled or unavailable.

  • Disabling song-title or mark sharing will no longer replace the hidden content with another status message.

  • Fixed some media players retaining the previous track after switching songs.

  • Improved updates for unusually long song titles and artist names.

Text and Rule Editing

  • Removed the pre-publish review process for statuses and application rules.

  • Removed sensitive-word restrictions.

  • Removed text-length restrictions.

  • QQ, links, contact information, and longer text can now be used in application rules, presets, and marks.

  • Basic whitespace and control-character normalization remains in place to prevent invalid empty content.

Saves and Startup

  • Strengthened defensive handling around Steam Cloud save loading.

  • Added retries for transient Cloud read failures during startup, reducing false “invalid online save” reports.

  • Improved detection of genuinely new saves versus existing saves.

  • New-user defaults will not modify existing saves or repeatedly overwrite manual choices.

  • Improved upgrade and platform-refresh behavior so a hidden companion is not unexpectedly restored.

What’s Next?

We are preparing a new testing phase and will invite players to try Daymark’s redesigned UI and updated overall experience.

This test will go beyond visual changes. We will continue exploring Daymark’s future as both a lightweight desktop companion game and a flexible status tool, with the main window and companion becoming increasingly independent and adaptable.

The new UI is still being developed and refined. We will share participation details when the test is ready, and we would love to hear your feedback.

Thank you for continuing to test, support, and help improve Daymark!

Here are some UI design concepts for the upcoming version:

For reference only. The final in-game version may differ.
