Hello, warriors!

In our previous post, we broke down how turn-based combat, Health, and Spirit work in Spears & Spirits. Today, we want to shift focus to the visual atmosphere of our battlefields and how your journey takes you through different environments.

From Taiga to Frozen Shores

As Erumi and her party travel through 17th-century Siberia, the landscapes around them shift.

Our base biome is the endless taiga. Inspired by the lesser-known landscapes of the Yana and Indigirka river basins, your squad's journey moves from cold autumn taiga and northern swamps to frozen tundra and the shores of an ice-covered ocean.

Autumn nature provides us with vivid natural color accents: white snow, red berries, yellow leaves, green needles, and bright blue skies reflecting in the water.

Designing Distinct Battlefields

Northern nature is sparse, which presents a creative challenge for our level designers. They must be inventive to make each location feel distinct while keeping the tactical grid clean and readable:

  • Environmental contrast: lighting, autumn foliage, and weather elements set a distinct mood for each region;
  • Combat readability: the grid, cover points, and unit positions remain sharp and clear across all biomes.

We’ll keep sharing more updates as we continue refining the presentation and world of Spears & Spirits.

And don't forget to add Spears & Spirits to your wishlist - it really helps the project:
