Update 0.44: Containment Breach

Update 0.44 brings a new full-game Rift challenge and a broad set of improvements across Aetheris Core.

The full game gains Helix Containment Breach, a new Hard special encounter against the Helix Quarantine Array, plus the Containment Warden skin and two additional Run Modifiers. Both the full game and demo receive the game-wide interface overhaul, redesigned AoE Size progression, combat fixes, visual updates, and general polish.

No save reset or refund is required. Existing saves continue automatically.

New Full-Game Trial: Helix Containment Breach

The Helix Quarantine Array is a stationary research platform that has turned its own containment systems into a weapon. This is a focused damage race: the longer the fight continues, the less safe space remains.

  • Enter a new level 28 Hard special Rift Trial for one Rift Sigil.
  • Fight with the fixed Overdrive Lattice loadout.
  • Avoid permanent, expanding ooze zones that arrive more frequently in later phases.
  • Read escalating suppressive-cannon fire, larger homing-missile volleys, temporary sterilization fields, and a full-axis core blast.
  • Homing missiles now use a close-range proximity fuse, keeping their detonation timing visually readable while preserving the larger explosion radius.
  • First clear unlocks Containment Warden, a new pilot and ship skin for Kael.
  • Repeat clears award 225 Aether Seeds and 18 Mastery Sprouts.

Helix Containment Breach is exclusive to the full game and does not enter the normal boss rotation.

Game-Wide UI Overhaul

0.44 establishes one clear interface language across the Main Menu, Core, progression screens, Rift, Archive, pause and results screens, gameplay HUD, and primary in-run overlays. The goal is consistency and readability rather than making every screen look identical.

  • Rebuilt screen hierarchy makes primary actions, supporting options, utilities, locked states, persistent selections, and current focus easier to distinguish.
  • Cool navy surfaces and cyan structure now provide a consistent foundation, while gold, red, green, purple, rarity colors, and stat colors are reserved for information that carries meaning.
  • Panels, cards, buttons, focus outlines, typography, spacing, and navigation feedback now follow a shared visual system.
  • Mouse, keyboard, and controller behavior has been refined across the interface. A stationary pointer no longer steals controller focus, focus movement better matches visible layout, and dense horizontal rows resist accidental diagonal exits.
  • The HUD has been tightened around the information players need in combat, with safer border spacing and dynamic room for Seed counts and Ultimate alerts.
  • Compact 1280 x 720 layouts, long translated strings, large counters, scrollbars, and controller paging prompts received dedicated attention.
  • Large collections now avoid unnecessary full-screen rebuilds. Run History loads older records in 20-run batches, while filters and category changes update existing cards more responsively.

Clearer collections and progression

  • Rift encounters are organized into three direct libraries: Gauntlets, Hard Gauntlets, and Special Encounters, with six fights per page.
  • Run Modifiers are grouped by purpose, with compact effect summaries, clearer saved-state feedback, and a new Clear All action.
  • Archive destinations, Relic Codex browsing, Achievements, Unlocks, Field Guide lessons, Theater replays, Run History, Power Stats, and the Jukebox now use clearer collection and detail layouts without burying the player's next action.
  • Power Stats now reports effective Critical Chance and Evasion caps instead of showing only cap bonuses.

AoE Size Reworked

The in-run AoE Size upgrade has been rebuilt so it improves the impact of area builds as well as their reach.

  • AoE Size now has 10 ranks instead of 12.
  • Rank 1 grants +15% AoE Size, and rank 10 reaches +200% AoE Size.
  • Each rank also grants +2% damage to area-based ability components, reaching +20% AoE Damage at rank 10.
  • Persistent, Mastery, and relic AoE bonuses remain size-only; the new damage bonus comes specifically from the in-run AoE Size upgrade.
  • Upgrade cards and pause-menu ability summaries now show the new size and damage totals.
  • Orbital begins at a slightly tighter 170-pixel orbit and receives 60% of AoE reach growth, while orbiter hit size still receives the full increase. High-AoE Orbital builds stay tighter and avoid excessive gaps between orbiters.

Run Modifiers & Rift Loadouts

The full game gains two new achievement-unlocked Run Modifiers:

  • Thin Shields: Maximum shield capacity is reduced by 25%, and Aether Seed rewards gain +12%. Unlock by reaching Core Level 25.
  • Drained Capacitors: Shield recharge rate is reduced by 25%, and Aether Seed rewards gain +15%. Unlock by completing five runs.
  • Existing saves that have already met these achievement requirements unlock the modifiers automatically.
  • Heavy Frame and Quickened Swarm now grant +15% Aether Seed rewards, up from +8%.

Rift loadout tuning

  • Singularity Mesh kits now include additional Attack Power at every supported level and can fill a sixth ability slot with Pulse Strike when needed.
  • Survivor's Ward kits gain one additional rank of Attack Power across their supported levels.
  • Loadout construction more reliably fills every pilot's available ability slots without duplicating starting abilities.

Combat & Boss Tuning

Abilities

  • Pulse Strike now begins its next charge as soon as its cooldown completes, removing an unintended second wait between casts.
  • Tether Beam now attempts to channel as soon as its reacquire cooldown completes and stays ready when no target is available, instead of restarting the cooldown.
  • Reina's Life Tendrils healing against normal targets has been adjusted from 10% to 9% of damage. Its effective 1.5% healing ratio during boss encounters is unchanged.
  • Area-damage totals and live ability values now remain synchronized when AoE Size changes during a run.

Bosses and encounters

  • Sentinel Ophion: Normal-run HP reduced from 196,000 to 185,000. Rift and other non-normal variants retain their intended tuning.
  • The Overlord: Defeating a summoned mini-boss during a normal run now removes 1.75% of the Overlord's maximum health, up from 1.5%.
  • Dreadnought: Mortar target selection now tries to spread impacts apart, reducing unfair overlap while preserving the attack's pressure.
  • Eclipse Twins: The normal-run orbital spiral now waits 0.6 seconds before emitting its first projectiles, giving the pattern a clearer opening read.
  • Leviathan Battlecarrier: Choosing Attack now turns every intact weapon toward the player during the confirmation. Backing out restores their previous aim.
  • XP gems now continue their wake and collection checks while the Leviathan event intentionally freezes normal run progression.

Visual, Audio & General Polish

  • Interceptor and Hopper enemies now use new ship artwork, including movement-facing rotation for Interceptors and preserved hop animation for Hoppers.
  • Hero in the Dark has been rebalanced in the boss-music mix, and the Eclipse post-implosion music transition now ramps more gradually.
  • Dangerous actions, confirmation prompts, saved-state messages, disabled controls, and controller focus restoration received another consistency pass.
  • Backing out of a Rift launch confirmation now returns focus to the relevant Start action.
  • A broad translation pass updates all 12 non-English game-language packs for the new 0.44 content, modifier descriptions, interface navigation, labels, status text, and tutorials.
  • Additional regression coverage now protects ability cadence, AoE scaling, long save histories, controller navigation, compact layouts, Helix mechanics, and the major redesigned interfaces.

Thank You

Thank you for the playtesting and detailed interface feedback that shaped 0.44. It helped us focus this update on the things players feel every session: faster navigation, clearer decisions, more readable combat, and fewer small points of friction.

Good luck containing Helix. The ooze does not stop spreading.
