The free MUSTER demo is now available on Steam for Windows, macOS, and Linux!
We've spent the last few devblogs talking about how MUSTER has been taking shape: the talent system, the evolving battlefields, the equipment, and the pixel art that brings it all together. Now you can get your hands on those ideas and see how they feel in an expedition.
Download the demo from the MUSTER Steam page and look for the demo download button.
For our small two-person team, this is a big milestone. There's a lot we can explain in a devblog, but watching a formation hold together—or discovering exactly where it falls apart—is something you need to play for yourself.
MUSTER brings together a numbered excavation grid and automatic battles. Between fights, you read the clues and decide where to dig. You might uncover a recruit, useful equipment, or the monsters that will test your next formation. Your supplies are limited, so every discovery changes what you need and what you're willing to risk.

Reading the excavation grid in the demo. Use the numbered clues to decide where your warband digs next.
Before a battle, you equip your diggers and arrange your warband on the hex battlefield. Once the fighting starts, they act on their own. The decisions you made beforehand—who protects the front, who needs room to work, and which talents and items fit together—play out in front of you.
The demo gives you room to experiment with that loop across multiple expeditions. It includes:

Choosing a Warrior specialization in the demo. The cards preview future full-game signatures; demo heroes have a 12-point talent budget.
That gives you several ways to approach a run: change your lineup, try a different talent path, or see whether a new piece of equipment makes an existing combination work. We're especially interested in which choices make you want to head back down for another expedition.
The full game is still in development. The demo focuses on the Barrow and the early part of progression; additional classes, Frozen Barrow, Endless, and the deeper talent progression remain part of the full game.
We'd love to hear how your first expeditions go. Which combinations were fun? Where did a screen or mechanic leave you unsure what to do? Was there a fight you couldn't understand, even after seeing the result?
You can use Submit Feedback in the game or post in the Steam discussions. If something breaks, tell us what happened, what you were doing just before it, and which platform you're playing on. Screenshots help too.
Thank you to everyone who's been following the development of MUSTER. Download the demo, take a warband into the Barrow, and let us know what you find. If you'd like to follow the game toward release, adding MUSTER to your wishlist helps our little team a lot.
