Hi. Here's a little update as to what I've been working on in A Wizard-Chess Tournament this week. I do all the artwork myself, and today I thought I'd give you a little peak into the process.
We've wanted to add a few different chess sets to the game since the beginning, and after finishing the cards and effects, it seemed like a great time to add this extra detail to the game.
After doing research previously, I knew I wanted to create the jeweled chess set of my dreams - it just fits in beautifully with that wizard theme. In my mind I could picture it so clearly, but I actually struggled to find real-life sets that looked the way I imagined. In the end I had to draw it almost entirely from my imagination, but I think the end result is amazing.
I scanned my rough pencil sketch and did all the drawing and coloring in Aseprite (my go-to for pixel art). After blocking in the rough colors I slowly layered in shading until the image came alive - you can see it when the gold glistens and jewels sparkle.
After that it was easy to replace the colors for the silver version, as well as just doing a few small tweaks as I finished up the image. I had so much fun drawing that I completed it faster than expected :)
Look forward to seeing these changes in the game soon, as well as plenty of new artwork in the pipeline!
And Wishlist the game if you're interested :)
