Dev Note: Ongoing Improvements

Hello, Embers.

This is the Embers of the Uncrowned team.

Ever since the last demo, we've put our full attention into creating new content and expanding the world. The support you showed us during the demo is what made that push possible.

At the same time, we've been reading through your feedback piece by piece and reworking things so the game plays with more depth.

This Dev Note focuses on two areas a lot of you raised: the camera and the controls. Here's our thoughts and what's already in progress.

Camera Improvements

In combat, the camera shouldn't get stuck behind terrain or objects.
Our aim is to keep the view clear so the flow of battle never gets inturrupted.

We're also rebuilding the underlying system so the camera stops shifting on its own mid-combat.

Minimized View Obstructions from Terrain and Objects

We're cutting back on the objects and terrain that used to get between you and the action during combat.

Wherever the camera sits, it won't hide your character or what's happening around you. The battlefield stays easy to read, and the space feels more open.

Optimized Camera Rotation & Input Method Selection

Right-click mouse drag sometimes spun the camera when you didn't want it to.
Here's what we're preparing to address that:

The default camera rotation input will be changed to keyboard input, and you'll be able to choose your preferred method (mouse or keyboard) in the [Options] menu.

We also fixed the bug where the cursor drifted during rotation and set off clicks you never meant to make. Now the cursor holds its spot, even after you rotate.

Control Improvements

Everyone plays with their own control setup. We're tuning the system so you can fight with whatever feels most natural and suits your playstyle.

Free Choice of Movement Input

We're adding an option to move with either the mouse or the keyboard, whichever suits you.

Your control settings save to your account, so they carry over even when you switch to a different PC. Switching control methods used to cause misinputs from sudden cursor jumps, and we've stopped that as well.

And if your gamepad drops out mid-session, controls jump straight to the keyboard so play keeps going without a hitch.

Improved Dodge Action Responsiveness

Dodge and dash actions are getting faster to respond.

The transition between basic attacks and dodges will feel smoother than it did in the demo.

We want to stay open about how development is going and where it's headed, both where we stand now and what comes next.

*Everything here is still in development and not final. Some of it may change as work continues.

We'll be sharing updates like this as development moves along. Your support means a lot to us, and every voice you share counts.

We'll do our best to answer with a more complete dark fantasy world.

See you in the next Dev Note.
