A Better Start on the Titan Train

Greetings, Freerailers!

In this post, we want to focus on one of the biggest challenges we’ve seen during playtests: helping players understand what to do, why it matters, and how to start making meaningful progress on the Titan.

Enginefall is a game with a lot of moving parts. Between looting, crafting, building, pushing through classes, defending your progress, fighting hostile scrappers (and Freerailers!) and ultimately extracting before Enginefall, there is a lot to learn, especially for newer players boarding for the first time.

That’s why we’ve been working on a more guided early experience: Tutorials!

The Problem: “What am I supposed to do?”

In past playtests, we noticed a few common hurdles for new players:

  • Unclear First Steps: Players often understood that survival mattered, but not always what their first goal should be.

  • System Overload: Building, crafting, extraction, and class progression can be a lot to absorb all at once.

  • Missed Core Mechanics: Some players would completely miss important tools or systems that could have helped them survive longer.

  • Too Much Trial by Fire: Getting thrown into a hostile Titan without enough direction can make early deaths feel confusing instead of educational.

The Solution: Tutorials

Tutorials are designed to give players a clearer path into Enginefall without removing the danger, tension, or player-driven nature of the game.

Rather than forcing you through a long disconnected lesson, our goal is to teach important mechanics in the context of an actual raid. These tutorials help introduce the basics, point you toward key objectives, and make sure you understand the tools available to you before things inevitably go sideways.

Players can expect guidance around things like:

  • Finding and using early loot

  • Understanding basic crafting

  • Placing important starter structures

  • Preparing for extraction

  • Surviving long enough to make progress

Why We’re Doing This

Enginefall is still meant to be harsh. You are still boarding a dangerous Titan with other players who may not have your best interests in mind.

But the challenge should come from making smart decisions under pressure, not from being completely unsure how the game works.

Tutorials help us smooth out the earliest moments of confusion so players can get to the good stuff faster: building a foothold, fighting over resources, pushing deeper into the train, and escaping with something worth bringing home.

This is part of our broader effort to make Enginefall easier to start, while keeping the depth, risk, and chaos that make each raid memorable.

See you on the rails.
