Dev Log #3: Cooking Cart Arrives: Eating Is No Longer Safe

In Desserted, eating has always been one of the most basic—and most dangerous—things you can do.

And let’s be honest, as both developers and longtime survival-game players, we know exactly what happens when a game lets you eat freely: players will shove anything into their mouths.

So this time, we decided to make eating a little more complicated.

Let me introduce a new core feature: the cooking cart system. It’s not here to make eating easier. It’s here to make you hesitate— Should I eat now? What should I eat? Is this even safe right now?

Raw food is still there—but don’t rely on it

You can still eat raw food to gain Calix, but if you’re planning to survive an entire run on raw food alone… that probably won't end well.

Eating raw food directly often comes with negative effects.

If you want to unlock its real value, that usually doesn’t happen until it goes into the cooking cart.

And those ingredients that look especially wrong? Let’s say they were never designed to be eaten straight.

This world doesn’t go easy on you just because you’re hungry.

Cooked food is a reliable source of Calix

If you’re looking for something stable, safe, and predictable, you’re looking for cooked food.

And cooked food can only be made using the cooking cart.

Drop in the raw ingredients. Close the lid. Light the fire.

When the pot starts shaking violently, the cooking is done.

Then—share the meal with your teammates.

Cooked food provides a large amount of heat and grants gradual recovery over time.

Some special ingredients can even give the dish additional effects.

A kitchen that moves

The cooking cart isn’t a safe, stationary cooking station. It’s a mobile kitchen that can be pushed, rotated, and repositioned.

The lower section is for storage—raw ingredients and fuel are neatly separated, limited in capacity, and become easier to manage through upgrades. Fuel isn’t infinite, and fire doesn’t stay lit just because you want it to.

Up top is the cooking area: the pot, the stove—everything looks perfectly normal.

But don’t forget:

The expedition doesn’t stop while you’re cooking.

That means positioning, awareness, and decision-making still matter.

The cooking cart is not a safe zone

You’re not the only ones paying attention to the cooking cart.

When monsters spot a cooking cart that’s actively cooking, they’ll treat it as a priority target. Each hit will push your cooking progress backward.

You can choose to stand your ground, or you can push the cart moving around while finishing the meal.

Either way, it won’t be easy.

The cooking cart has never been a haven in the chaos; it’s just a louder, smellier, much more obvious lure.

The better you eat, the more visible you become

As the game goes, you’ll be able to upgrade your cooking cart in the shop. More storage, faster cooking, better tolerance for mistakes— all of it makes eating feel a little less desperate.

But there’s one thing we still want you to remember:

In Desserted, the better you eat, the easier you are to notice.

What’s next

This is the first reveal of the cooking cart system. We’ll continue expanding food types, cooking risks, and their interactions with God’s Command.

Because in this world, there’s no such thing as a free meal.ːsteammockingː
