Devlog #5 — Welcome to Prefabot Hotel

In this development log, we want to introduce the first map players will encounter in Desserted: Prefabot Hotel.

This is currently the most feature-rich map in the game, and it is also home to the two “residents” we want to introduce today.

If you happen to meet them in the hotel… you might want to be prepared.

Prefabot Hotel

Prefabot Hotel sits in an old commercial district on the Forbidden Planet.

According to the few surviving records we could find, the hotel was likely built in the late 1960s. At the time, the area experienced a brief tourism boom, and Prefabot Hotel was considered one of the most luxurious hotels in the district.

But once you step inside the building, you’ll quickly notice something strange.

Most of the hotel feels as if time stopped decades ago. Long hallways stretch across the floors, covered with thick, patterned carpets. Wooden wall panels sit under dim lighting, giving the entire place an old and quiet atmosphere.

At the same time, however, some rooms look surprisingly modern.

You might find:

  • office desks

  • flat-screen TVs

  • brand new wallpaper

  • furniture from completely different design eras

These rooms are mixed with the older sections of the hotel, with no clear boundary between them.

Prefabot Hotel has one particularly noticeable feature: power outages happen frequently.

When the lights go out, the entire building becomes eerily quiet. The corridors disappear into darkness. Footsteps can sometimes be heard echoing somewhere in the distance, as if someone is moving through the hotel.

And some of the hotel’s “residents” only appear when the power is gone.

Monster — Mother

She slowly moves through the hotel corridors, as if searching for something—or perhaps trying to maintain some order within the building.

Mother’s behaviour is actually very simple: if she sees a player, she will immediately attack. The moment a player enters her sight, she begins pursuing them.

However, there is one unusual exception.

If a player is possessed by Annabelle—another entity that inhabits the hotel—Mother will temporarily ignore them.

According to fragments of recovered records and player observations, this may be because Annabelle is believed to be Mother’s child.

When Annabelle’s presence is attached to a player, Mother will not attack them for a short period of time.

Monster — The Ballerina

Deep within the casino section of Prefabot Hotel lies a performance hall where the spotlight no longer shines.

Time has long erased the noise and crowds that once filled this room.

However, now, only the Ballerina still wanders the hotel.

Strangely, there are no records suggesting that ballet performances ever took place here.

Yet witnesses claim they have seen the dancer moving through the hotel corridors, performing an endless routine.

Her movements are graceful, but disturbingly unnatural. Her joints bend far beyond what a human body should allow, and her limbs move like parts of a strange choreography.

The Ballerina has only one rule:

You must watch her performance.

If a player ignores her, turns away, or attempts to walk past her, she will immediately stop dancing and begin the chase.

Her body twists as she crawls forward, limbs dragging across the ground like a broken puppet.

Once she reaches the players, she will leap forward, tackle the player to the ground — and snap their neck.

Prefabot Hotel Still Holds Many Secrets

Prefabot Hotel is currently one of the most complex maps in Desserted.

The location contains multiple interconnected areas, including:

  • hotel rooms and long corridors

  • service and storage areas

  • the casino floor

  • hidden rooms

As players explore the hotel, they may gradually piece together what once happened here.

Or they might not.

Because some things… perhaps were never meant to be discovered.
