Hello Chefs!

And welcome to our first proper Devlog! We wanted to share with you a bit more background on our beloved female protagonist, Lisa.

Let me tell you…

…a bit more about Lisa. She always loved to cook; it was her way to express herself. She was raised in a small village where her family lived for generations. But to become a well-known chef, she needed to move from the peaceful small village to a bustling city, where she began working at a prestigious restaurant. Unfortunately for her, working in such a place wasn’t the dream she sought to fulfill. Constant anxiety, pressure, and stress pushed our fluffy protagonist to her breaking point. She returned to her home village and had to rebuild her life from scratch. But despite everything, she never stopped dreaming, and with help from her loved ones, she managed to get this old food truck going. And this is where you come in!

Lisa’s first designs

Let’s talk design choices now

Probably, some of you might wonder, “Why would they make the protagonist a fox?” Well, we wanted an animal that is recognisable, lovable, and full of expressions. We also wanted our protagonist to be an animal that is related to our country. Choosing a Red Fox as a protagonist was an obvious choice from that point.

“What about her backstory?”

Well, we needed to create a character that would fit nicely in our main game theme. A character that would be just as cozy, heartwarming, gentle and compassionate, but also hard-working and determined to achieve her life goal.

Lisa’s Final version

We put a lot of thought and work into making Lisa as relatable and likeable as we could. We wanted our future players (Yes You!) to be in love with her from the moment you see her!

But creating a 2D model wasn’t all the work that had to be done with our fluffy marshmallow. We didn’t want you to look at every dialogue with the same image staring back throughout the whole game; that’s when the idea of adding several expressions for the dialogues struck us. Just like red foxes, Lisa is also full of different emotions and expressions!

Isn’t she adorable?

Let’s talk about animations for last

Aside from Lisa’s paws that accompany you in the kitchen. You’ll constantly see Lisa walking around the city, taking in the sights and just being there with you. But having her just stand around unmoving would make it all unsatisfactory. That’s why using Spine 2D, we’ve added some much-needed animations for her!

Look at her go!

And with that, we’ve arrived at the end

Thank you for sticking with us until the end! We still have a lot of work to do before we can release Foxy Dumplings, but we’ll be sure to keep you constantly updated about the state of the game! Also, we might have something planned, but I can’t tell just yet what it’s all about 🤫

Consider following us on social media to always be up to date with our development! And also, we wanted to wish you the best for Valentine's Day! Remember - Dumplings always taste good, no matter if you enjoy them with someone or alone!

See you next time!
