Wrapping Up 2024!

Greetings Creature Creators!

2024 is coming to an end, and we hope you had an amazing Christmas with an equally amazing New Year coming up. It’s been an awesome (and busy) year for Adapt: multiple updates, going viral on Twitter and achieving 100k wishlists, New Key Art, and even went to Gamescom! Let’s quickly recount all the wonderful things that happened this year!

Multiple Updates!

(Our beautiful new key art made by the talented Júlia d'Oliveira),

Evolution is all about constantly changing for the better, and Adapt has been evolving throughout 2024. Aside from refreshing our key art, we have been polishing existing features and adding new ones. The aim is to give our animals more meaningful ways to interact with the world around them. Here’s a list of major changes introduced to Adapt this year:

  • Discovery mechanic – curious creatures can explore and investigate their surroundings
  • Shelters – allowing animals to hide from predators and rest in safety
  • Tutorial – simple instructions to help new players to get up to speed
  • Obtaining DNA points and inheritance – upgrade your creatures and pass on your legacy
  • New body parts and customization options
  • Numerous optimizations and fixes

Evolution never ends, and the same can be said for our plans on improving and expanding Adapt. We will be covering that in the later part of this post.

100k Wishlists!

Adapt finally hit 100k wishlists this May. Thank you all for sparing the time to check out our game and adding it to your wishlists. We have been overwhelmed by the positive response from our incredibly supportive community ever since the demo launch. Every wishlist is a tremendous encouragement to us, and we are very grateful to be noticed by so many passionate gamers.

Viral memes was not on our 2024 bingo card - a pleasant surprise for sure!

Also, a big shoutout to this hit tweet too (perhaps some of you are here because of it?). It was a really nice boost that helped us reach the wishlist milestone.

Event Appearances!

Busy updates aside, we always try our best to make time for the many wonderful events both IRL and online. In August, Adapt had the pleasure to join the Indie Arena Booth at Gamescom and show off our new tutorial and new body parts. It’s a great joy to see fans both old and new trying out Adapt in person and giving us so much valuable feedback!

We also participated in many wonderful online events, like Earth Appreciation Festival and Games for Waves, both for promoting Adapt and raising awareness for the environment and wildlife. Evolution and survival are hard work, and unlike Adapt, you can’t respawn a creature once it is gone. Every species is worth protecting, and we want to do what we can to make sure animals thrive in the real world too.

Community Creations

Throughout the year, our community has created many wonderful animal designs in Adapt. We'd love to show them all here but that would turn this into an extremely long article. Instead, here are some December creature highlights from our Discord!

First up, we have Rumi continuing with their creature experiments. With an array of fins propelling itself in water, Experiment 008 can achieve astonishing speed.

Next is the majestic Waveleap, created by GamerDuck. We might not have wings in the game yet but that doesn't stop the resourceful player. Using antlers as an alternative, a powerful carnivore is born.

And finally, Jeff the Land Shark made by Watermelon using the shark head. Just look at this adorable critter!

More News Incoming!

Now you might start to wonder, what’s next for Adapt? To answer your question, Paul, our game's amazing solo dev, will reveal more about his plans for Adapt before the New Years. Stay tuned for our next Steam post!

Game by our friends

Our publisher, Slug Disco, has a range of nature-inspired games, and recently a brand new title has joined our ranks. Strange Seed is, similar to Adapt, a creature creator, with more emphasis on RPG elements. In this evolution game, you begin as a very basic blob - but you can take on traits from things that you eat. The more you consume, the more body parts and abilities are available for solving puzzles and defeating bosses. Check out the trailer on YouTube and give their demo a go!

On that note, we’d like to end this 2024 round-up by thanking all of you for supporting Adapt along the way, whether you have just joined us recently or have been with us for some time. Every piece of your feedback and encouragement has been invaluable to help us make Adapt a better game, and we genuinely appreciate all of your love and support.

2024 was an amazing year for Adapt, and here’s to an even more wonderful 2025! We can’t wait to show you what we have in store. Make sure you follow us on TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter, as well as join our official Discord server to stay up-to-date on the latest news of Adapt!
