Master the timing of your weapon

When you equip a weapon, you’ll now gain access to a new ability that’s tied to a quick-time challenge. A timing bar will appear next to your character, and if you press the ability button again within the highlighted window, you’ll flow into the next stage of your combo.

Each weapon has its own unique combo chain, so a hammer might lead from a heavy opening swing into a crushing follow-up, while a sword could flow into a rapid flurry. The final hit in a combo is especially potent — delivering not just more damage, but also potentially a unique special effect, like inflicting a status ailment or knocking enemies off their feet.

Timing your inputs well won’t just look and feel great, but also will be the key to unlocking your weapon’s true potential.

It may seem like a small detail, but we think it makes every strike feel more physical and tactile. Here’s how it works: We start with 2D frame-by-frame doodles of the effect to nail the motion and timing. Each of those frames is then modelled in Blender as a 3D mesh. In Unity, wh…
