Development Update

Hey Brigadiers! We're still cooking, and currently we're getting ready to ship a couple highly requested features: controller support AND mech mounted cameras! Not quite ready for prime time yet, buuuuuuut if you just can't wait (and don't mind a few bugs), you can get your hands on the latest and greatest RIGHT NOW by switching to our experimental branch:

  • Right Click "Phantom Brigade in your steam Library and select "Properties"

  • Select "Game Versions and Betas"

  • Select "Experimental" to switch over to the Experimental branch

  • Done!

If you have any early feedback use ALT+B in game to send it through. We read everything :)If you want even more insider info come on over to the discord where we frequently mess up and mention exciting stuff we're working on like **REDACTED** and the big **EXTRA REDACTED**

Read on for a detailed list of changes and known issues (or jump right on in and poke around!)

The features are a work in progress and might not be fully stable. We recommend backing up your save files before switching over to the experimental branch.

Change list

  • Controller support:

    • Check the pause menu during the game to see the overview of your control scheme. The controls might change depending on the connected controller.

    • Keep an eye on the focus frame to confirm where you are and where you can navigate next. Check the input hints throughout different screens to learn screen-specific controls.

  • Keyboard support:

    • Depending on your preference, the game can be controlled with a mouse and keyboard (as before) or exclusively through the keyboard.

    • Using only the keyboard is similar to using a controller. Keep an eye on the focus frame to confirm where you are and where you can navigate next. Check the input hints throughout different screens to learn contextual inputs.

  • Mech mounted cameras:

    • You can access this new feature during combat replay, above time controls.

    • Enabling the feature attaches the camera to the selected unit. You can configure attachment points, tracking, field of view and a myriad of other values to dial in cinematic shots.

Known issues

  • Forcing Steam Input on can prevent the game from recognizing any controllers. Ensure that "Properties/Controller/Override for Phantom Brigade" setting in Steam is set to "Use default settings" or "Disable Steam Input" if you do not see any input from the controller or see that controller sticks are moving the cursor.

  • Controller input hints for the right trigger button might be incorrectly displayed with a left trigger icon. Inputs for both triggers continue to be registered normally.

  • Controller input hints might be incorrect for the first time you switch to a controller and might correct themselves once you use a mouse then switch back to the controller

  • Some inputs requiring pressing in the right stick of the controller might not work before you activate the controller a second time

  • Certain screens and panels do not have full support for keyboards and controllers. We recommend using a mouse if you need to interact with them until we push additional changes. These include:

    • Scenario objective panel in the top right corner of the combat UI

    • Boss sub-components panel at the top of the combat UI

    • Base upgrades screen (only exit is available with the controller, mouse required to reach upgrades)

    • Camp outcome screen (only exit is available with the controller, mouse required to inspect tooltips on outcomes)

    • Unit detail panel in the mech customization screen and briefing screen (mouse required to inspect tooltips)

    • Pilot detail panel in the briefing screen (mouse required to inspect tooltips)

  • Scroll wheel is not working in scroll views. Drag the scroll bar or contents of scroll views with a mouse or navigate with a keyboard or controller as a workaround.

  • Action cameras are currently unavailable during execution and are only available in replay.

  • The hint to focus the pilot and unit views in the briefing might disappear unexpectedly when moving around the squad slots.

  • The default keyboard bindings for previous/next tab (LB/RB on controllers) are PgUp and PgDn, which are not available on some keyboards. These inputs can be remapped in the keyboard options under the Overworld section.

  • In combat, when the fight is over, the fight can not be ended by pressing A on the controller. As a workaround, focus the timeline with d-pad down, then continue right until you reach the exit button.

  • Going left from salvage list does not bring you to the player squad buttons.

  • Going down from the last salvage item options does not connect to the finish button.

  • The mission buttons in the top left corner of mission UI can be clicked by pressing A but do not allow using move/select inputs like the in-world cursor.

  • Entering input fields (new save, mech name, pilot name) does not trigger input hints explaining how to close them. Press Esc/B to cancel or press Return/A to submit to resume navigation with arrows/d-pad.

Thanks for reading and have fun! Ok Byeeeeeeeeeee
