IronFlux 0.1.19 is out now for the full game, the Demo, the Playtest and the IronFlux Map Editor. It brings together everything from 0.1.16 to 0.1.19: new training missions, a new economy, smarter bots and a much bigger FIELD WIKI. Here's what has changed since our last update (0.1.15).
Training, rebuilt
- Basic Training grows from three missions to seven. Four new drills sit between Boot Camp and First Capture: Power Up (income), Bank and Balance (storage and spending), Production Line (queues and the army limit) and Home Guard (turrets, flak and shields). Each step circles or rings in gold the building, button or ground it is talking about.
- New Advanced Training with four missions: Engineer's Bench (flux and MK2 upgrades), The Gantry (tier 3), Weather Watch (lightning waves, freezing water and shelter under a Shield Dome) and Game Modes (an Ascendancy match with a short countdown, then a Horde Attacks wave).
- First Capture is rebuilt in two clear steps: build your army, then take the NORTH Monolith, marked by a gold ring and a dotted route.
- The faction campaigns now open once Basic Training and all of Advanced Training are complete.
- Because the training series is new, the first time you start 0.1.19 your training and faction campaign progress is reset. This happens once. Your saves, replays, settings, key bindings and reports are not touched.
- Mission messages are shown one after another instead of replacing each other, objectives show counts such as (4/10), and the message box no longer covers the objectives.
A new economy
- Your base now gives a fixed 20 metal/s and 20 energy/s (was 40 of each), and each Extractor yields 20 metal/s (was 7.5). MK2 and MK3 Extractors rise in step, to 53.3 and 85.3 metal/s. Taking and holding metal deposits matters much more.
- Titans are now built at the Gantry, alongside the other heavy units, instead of at a Factory.
Smarter bots
- A bot that is far ahead sends a force to finish a beaten side's last buildings, ships and aircraft, and deadlocked free-for-all matches move on. On symmetric maps every start position gets an even game.
- Bot armies gather in open ground clear of their bases instead of waiting in the gaps between their own buildings.
- Bots play the new economy: their first Titan arrives within a minute or two of their Gantry going up, and Titans go out to fight.
- A bot that has beaten everything but an enemy's last aircraft builds flak under them instead of chasing them, so the match ends.
Units leave your base cleanly
- Units parked between buildings, or between a building and a cliff, walk out in any direction you send them.
- Idle units step aside for a friendly unit that needs to pass, and two units meeting head-on in a gap pass each other.
- Group orders into your base give every unit room to stand.
Controls
- Attack-move has moved from A to Tab. W, A, S and D now always pan the camera, with or without units selected. Press Tab, then click, to attack-move. If you had already rebound attack-move, you keep your key. You can rebind it at any time in OPTIONS, CONTROLS.
- Alt no longer gets stuck as held, so right-clicks stop turning into patrols. While your next right-click will set a patrol, the PATROL order is lit and a loop marker follows the pointer.
A clearer HUD
- The economy panel shows STORED, INCOME/s, SPEND/s and NET/s for metal and energy. Spending now counts construction, production, upkeep and shield domes, and a warning appears when a nearly empty bank slows construction.
- Buildings under fire show UNDER ATTACK, shield domes show SHIELD DOWN or SHIELD OFFLINE, and units attacking a building now visibly fire at it.
- When your army is at its limit, the army line reads LIMIT REACHED and the unit buttons are greyed out and say how to raise the limit.
- With WEATHER EVENTS off, the LIGHTNING ROD button is greyed out and says why. The weather banner now reads LIGHTNING WAVES.
- Coming back to the menu after a match no longer leaves the skirmish setup screen half empty, and the remaining English HUD texts are now translated.
A bigger FIELD WIKI
- UNITS and BUILDINGS have a tier filter (T1, T2, T3), and CREATURES are now a filter on the UNITS page.
- Every entry has a picture, including points of interest such as Monoliths, metal deposits, energy vents, flux shards and the new WRECKAGE entry.
- RACES now include the NATIVES OF VEYRA, with the story of the moon's creatures.
- Every building and every unit now has a short description in all 31 languages, on its build card and in the wiki.
Geothermal Energy Vents
Energy Vents now look like the geothermal vents they are named after: a grey rock mound with a smoking mouth and a faint ember glow. A Generator caps the vent, and while you place one, every free vent you know of is ringed in a warm heat ring.
Reports and the Workshop
- REPORT A PROBLEM has two new quick picks, Map issue and Workshop issue, and every report names the map and Workshop item you had loaded.
- MY REPORTS shows your own text in each report's history, marks a report as unread when we reply or its status changes, and can be filtered by status (Received, In review, Fixed, Closed, Duplicate), by read or unread, and by report type.
- New, and off unless you turn it on: Mention me in the public changelog when this is fixed. Tick it and we may thank you by your Steam name in the release notes once the bug is fixed.
- Publishing to the Workshop always ends with a link to your new item or a short reason why it failed.
- In the Demo, SAVE MAP TO WORKSHOP is greyed out with an explanation: publishing needs the full game or the IronFlux Map Editor. SAVE MAP keeps your map, and you can still subscribe to and play Workshop maps in the Demo.
Please note
- Older replays still play.
- Multiplayer needs everyone on the same version (0.1.19).
- Saves from earlier versions can't be resumed because the game rules changed.
Roadmap
- The rewritten faction campaigns, starting on their homeworlds.
- Summit walls in the IronFlux Map Editor.
- More multiplayer hardening on the way to 1.0.
- Late-game balance, so long matches with very large armies reach an ending.
