Thanks for all the feedback everyone! We’ve been hard at work on this first update, focusing on general polish to the combat and balance.

Main Changes:

  • General Bug Fixes
  • Improved Beat Sync stability
  • New Enemy varieties (Exploding Enemy and Slow Projectile Enemy)
  • Common Enemies now move to the beat of the music!
  • Solo’s now increase the size of your instrument and hitbox.
  • Changed balance to be slightly harder for earlier rounds and slightly easier for later rounds.

Our next update will focus on expanding our rhythm gameplay, new movement options and buffing builds that use multiple instruments. Stay Tune!

Change Log for Kill The Music Early Alpha v0.35

  • Improved Beat Sync stability

  • Fixed issue where upgrade “Keyboard Spin Up x2” had no functionality

  • Set Damage Up and Beat Damage Up round start rewards to appear more often for round conditions that contain Curses.
  • Fixed Beat Sync on certain lower BPM songs.
  • Drum Enemy “outline” set to a darker grey for better visibility.

Balance

  • Increase eye spawn and actual enemy spawn delay (to give player a better chance of avoiding getting hurt on enemy spawn)
  • Increased spawn rates for earlier rounds
  • Reduced Kill Quota in later rounds
  • Set Enemies to attack more frequently
  • Buffed upgrade “Projectile Reflect” to now reflect a larger slower moving projectile to make it more likely to hit enemies. ss
  • Buffed Guitar as a starting character by removing the negative condition of -50% DEF.
  • Reduced player knockback and stun on player hurt.
  • Added additional invincibility on player hurt and added “blinking” fx for indication.
  • Lowered enemy projectile damage to player.
  • Added additional “afterimage” effect to Dashing Enemy and Move on Beat Enemy.
  • Changed “COPY MAXUP” upgrade to just “COPY UP +1” to make it more incremental
  • Set Drum default projectile speed to be slower.
  • Increase Guitar default damage to x2 to compensate for its limited area of effect.

General Change and Polish

  • SOLO: The active soloing instrument increases x2 in size
  • TUTORIAL: Set beat tutorial highlight to only go away if player hits four beats
  • TUTORIAL: Set players to “repeat” tutorial if they die mid-tutorial, except for final tutorial step.

Known Issues

  • Curse: Enemy Speed x2 effect is too subtle to detect
  • Round Start Estimate Time formatting issue persists, got a 2:8 when the actual time was 2:08 (kill quota + timer room)
  • For some songs (sometimes triggered by pausing mid-song) certain beats will be skipped by the beat UI.
  • UI Message on Defense Up! On solo has incorrect messaging (can say meter up! Or take on property of other Solo Stat Up! messages)
  • Overall SFX for Songs 10 to 15 are too loud
  • Solo Defence Up or Defence Up in general seems to give inaccurate damage numbers (ie. red text on player would say 22 but the actual damage removed from health bar is 12)
