Greetings seafarers, today we are going to share our plans for the future!
First things first, thank you all for taking part in our Early Access. We have gained lots of helpful feedback and bug reports during 0.6 and we hope that you will continue this journey towards 1.0 together with us.
Patch 0.7
As we have been developing Maritime Calling over the last couple years, we have breezed through a lot of prototypes (some of which are still present and overcomplicate our systems). Our first order of business is perform maintenance over the core of our game:
- resolve terrain bottleneck with planting large forests, leading to tighter packed maps (with ships, islands and point of interest) and more FPS when you sail close to islands
- much better looking islands and more landscape diversity
- adding more types of lootable objects to the world
- upgrade our game engine, leading to more FPS in game and better graphics (especially adding MSAA)
- code cleanup, to improve stability of our systems and streamline development of the new ones
- improve ship textures (exterior and interior)
- decrease performance load from ships and spikes when enemy is spawned
- simplify crew assignments (no longer requiring you to have 1 sailor on each sail and reworking gun crews)
- add animations to all sailor tasks
- add new sailor model
This patch will be mainly focused on improving game performance and visuals.
After 0.7
After that we will be improving our game features, here are some goals that we have set:
- add social aspects to the crew: responding to captain decisions, interactions between sailors, more personalities and improve leveling system
- island expedition that follow actual shape of the island with allowing player to freely move between locations and explore all locations on the island
- combat improvements: boarding, capitulation, parley and allow you to target specific parts of enemy ship when firing
- adding ship options to select from at the start of the game, allow you to buy ship at ports and to replace it with opponent's ship when you board her
This is just a list of more pressing issues, we have many other cool concepts in the making that are not ready to share yet.
Release when?
Our plans are to release the patch 1.0 in March 2022. We ask you to complete this journey together with us and we promise to provide high quality updates along the way.
That's it for today!
