Modules, New Entities & More!

Hello everyone!

We've brought big changes and improvements with this update that not only adds new entities, but also a brand new system to improve your character and an overhaul of how electricity works. Let's start with the new system!

Modules

Modules are equippable, passive items that improve your character with various properties. You can obtain these modules at random from a 3D printer in exchange for money in your hideout. At the moment, it costs 2.500 to build a module, but you can sell it again at any time. The value of a module is determined by its rarity. A maximum of 32 modules can be stored.

The rarity and possible bonuses are randomly selected. You can get modules in the rarities Normal, Rare and Epic. The rarity determines the number of available bonuses. There are a total of 3 module slots, which differ in the categories: Agility, Senses and Finance. Each category offers its own strengths and allows for a wide range of possible combinations of improvements.

Overview of module improvements:

  • Normal modules have one bonus
  • Rare modules have two bonuses
  • Epic modules have three bonuses

Agility

Possible bonuses:

  • + X% more stamina
  • + X% faster sprint
  • + X% faster movement when walking
  • + X% quieter movement
  • + X% faster stamina recovery
  • Removes the stamina recharge delay

Sense

Possible bonuses:

  • + X% enhanced vision in the dark
  • + X% larger radius of the hacking signal
  • + X% larger lockpick range
  • + X% faster hacking speed
  • + X% increased field of vision for Black Market items
  • + X% chance to warn you when an entity appears

Finance

Possible bonuses:

  • + X% higher chance that a Black Market item is rarer
  • + X% chance of double value when collecting loot
  • + X% more loot value when collecting electronics
  • + X% more loot value when collecting Documents
  • + X% more loot value when collecting cash
  • + X% more data when hacking
  • + X% chance of getting double the amount of data

The maximum rolled out values are each given a star. So if you want to look out for really strong modules, hunt for epic three-star variants, which are incredibly rare!

The modules give you the opportunity to customize your character even further, which actually has an effect on the gameplay. With the modules comes the first really "meaningful" opportunity to spend money to get better.

New entities

We've added two new, challenging entities that can appear at any time during your heists: Ragnok and Inuva.

Ragnok
Ragnok is a large and powerful entity that shakes the ground with its presence alone. It is slower than other entities, but all the more dangerous if you get too close.

Inuva
Inuva is the exact opposite of Ragnok and hides its presence so that it is barely visible. Only a trained eye and a UV light source can spot it.

Overhaul of electricity

Previously, an activated light source consumed one of five electricity points. If you exceed this limit, you experience a power failure and have to go to the fuse box to restore the power.

Now, various actions use electricity. Hacking computers in particular now also actively consumes power:

  • Active light source = 15% electricity
  • Hacking computer = 5% electricity
  • Hacking laptops = no power consumption (connected to battery)

Depending on the level of difficulty, there is also a chance that you will start without power:

  • Easy: No chance to start without power
  • Normal: Chance of 5%
  • Hard: Chance of 20%
  • Nightmare: Chance of 50%

With this overhaul of electricity, we want to make the gameplay more dynamic. In addition, it is also planned that in future you will lose less Sanity when standing in the light to give the electricity even more meaning.

Further changes and adjustments

  • New option to set the maximum FPS (only works with vsync off)
  • New option for setting the FOV (Field of View)
  • New entity event that switches off the electricity
  • The cooldown time between entity hunts on higher difficulty has been increased
  • It is now possible to collect more than 100% data
  • Collected data also corresponds to XP. It is therefore now possible to level up faster/better
  • As a ghost, you now have unlimited stamina
  • Updated the splash screen
  • If the connection is lost due to an error, you are now sent to the main menu and receive a pop-up message that can help us solve errors

Bug fixes

  • Fixed a bug where the lobby lights and lockers were not synchronized
  • Fixed a bug where a connection loss due to an error could lead to a corrupt save file
  • Fixed a bug where the hacking signal ui sometimes appeared after death

Next

Another major system is already planned that will provide a lot of fun and great challenges, the Black Market Mission System. This system will feature randomly generated missions with modifiers. For example, you get more loot in exchange for the entity being faster. But more on that in the future.

We've received some great feedback from you once again, so we jumped right back to work and made some adjustments designed to make your lives easier, especially when it comes to the new features. And let us say this right off the bat: quite a bit more content made it into the update. Let's go through everything step by step. Upgrading to Unity 6 This was the biggest hurdle of them all. Midnight Heist was running on an older version of Unity, and that was holding us back. We’ve been transparent with you so far about the fact that the revenue from the game hasn’t been enough to keep us up and running, so we’ve had to take on new projects (admittedly, it was also really good for our mental health to have a change of pace and try something new). We had and still have n…
