Hello everyone,

I am happy to announce that Late Night Duty is officially participating in Next Fest. Thank you to everyone who has downloaded and played the demo so far. Your feedback, bug reports, and support mean a lot to me, especially as a solo developer.

Since the initial demo release, I have been working hard to polish the game and prepare for Next Fest. I have pushed out several small updates based on your feedback. Here is a summary of the major improvements and fixes added to the demo recently.

Cinematics and Story

  • New 3D Intro: Reworked the intro scene into a fully 3D cinematic sequence.

  • New Starting Sequence: You now need to turn on the two bedroom light switches before you can eat your Nasi Lemak.

Gameplay and Mechanics

  • Infinite Flashlight Battery: The flashlight no longer drains or flickers. The shake and recharge mechanic along with its UI prompts have been completely removed.

  • Stamina Tuning: Adjusted stamina drain and recovery rates.

  • Checkpoint Adjustments: Tweaked patrol and progression checkpoints for better pacing and flow.

Visuals, Audio, and Performance

  • Better Visibility: Enhanced overall world lighting for a more polished atmosphere.

  • Audio Boost: Increased default BGM and SFX volumes from 10 percent to 40 percent, and fixed issues with sound effects randomly dropping out.

  • Performance Optimizations: Disabled dynamic shadows and optimized high-cost lights in dense areas to improve frame rates. The uncapped Max FPS option was removed to ensure stability.

Quality of Life and Bug Fixes

  • Localization: Updated in-game signboards from Malay to English and fixed floor naming inconsistencies for better navigation.

  • UI Improvements: Added an on-screen stamina label, fixed the Dismiss text prompt drifting, and fixed the exit button at the end of the demo.

  • Bug Fixes: Fixed various collision issues like getting stuck on potted plants or vending machines, resolved an intro crash, and fixed the window scare event voiceover skipping.

If you have not tried the demo yet, there has never been a better time to jump in.

As always, if you have any feedback, issues, or bugs, please let me know in the discussion forum or email me directly at [email protected]. Your input directly helps shape the game.

Thank you again for your support, and I look forward to you experiencing the Next Fest demo.Stay safe,

— toastycedes
