A major update to the game!

LoveCraft · published

The LoveCraft game client is now fully High DPI aware. This means it can take advantage of high resolution displays and render in full 4k if your hardware supports it. This also brings full resolution crisp UI, and fixes issues with window positioning, like the game client opening slightly offscreen. If you experience serious framerate issues when rendering at higher resolutions with underpowered hardware, try the following (in order):

We have added hardware upscaling support (DLSS4, FSR4, XeSS3, etc) which will allow the client to render at a lower resolution, but present at a higher resolution. You can enable it in Preferences in the Graphics tab. Try Performance mode first and see how it works for you:

Disabling Shadows can bring significant performance improvement. This can also be configured in Preferences in the Graphics tab:

Of course you can also drop your "Graphics Quality" to a lower setting in the Graphics Preferences. We have also added the ability to switch to Exclusive Fullscreen mode, and when you do so, you can now select a lower resolution than your monitor's default native resolution. This will give a nice full-screen experience too!

If all else fails, you can force the LoveCraft client back into DPI unaware mode using Windows compatibility settings. In Steam, click the gear icon to the right of the big green Play button on the LoveCraft game page, then select Manage, and then Brows Local Files. When File Explorer opens showing the install folder, open the Application sub-folder, and inside there right click the Curio.exe application and select "Properties".  Then on the Compatibility tab, click the "Change high DPI settings" button.  In the High DPI Settings dialog, check the "Override high DPI scaling behaviour." checkbox, and select "System" from the drop-down.

We've added support for UI scaling. This is especially useful on high DPI (4k) displays where the UI can be a little too small and hard to read. In Preferences, on the General tab, you can set your preferred UI size:

We've also added support for higher framerate if your hardware can manage it. On the Graphics tab of Preferences, under "Maximum Frames Per Second (FPS)" you can now select "Unlimited". The game client will cap framerate at 60FPS when not loaded into a scene, like at client startup and persona select, but will render up to 240FPS in-world to support cutting edge gaming monitors.
