Ciao @everyone !
We understand it's been a long wait before breaking the silence after all this time, but unfortunately the development of Swappy World turned out to be much longer and more complex than expected, which forced us to revise our roadmap. We've had the chance to gather a lot of feedback through the demo we released, chatting with users both online and meeting them in person at live events.
Once we took all that valuable feedback to heart during development, we realized that many elements could be improved: by its very nature, Swappy World is an extremely innovative project, and that makes it hard to find the "perfect formula" for a brand-new game-design. So we spent a long time reworking the entire core-loop of the game until we found solutions that, in our opinion, address many of the game's weak points. There's honestly a huge amount of new content to cover, so we won't list everything in this announcement, but we still want to sum up a few key points:
As of today, we've completely rebuilt the core system that governs game turns.
We've rethought from scratch how creatures interact with the player.
Energy: movement no longer consumes energy — we've removed the "take a breath" mechanic and introduced "rest point" cards that can be used to recover energy.
Combat system: completely rewritten and made "dynamic," introducing quick-time events that let you defend yourself if you press a button at the right moment.
Introduction of elemental weaknesses and resistances, altered status.
Armor: gets consumed to absorb damage before it hits your health.
Moveset: creatures now have a set of attacks with their own traits and quirks.
Stealth: a button lets you activate stealth by "crouching" — creatures won't see you, but moving while crouched consumes energy.
Interaction with building cards: no longer a single action — each building now allows multiple actions. For example, at the campfire you can cook, but you can also rest to regenerate energy by consuming fuel.
Game interfaces completely redone and improved.
Visual effects and polish completely redone and improved.
...and much more!
As for languages: we're a tiny team, and up until now we'd added support for a huge number of languages with the help of AI. However, we realized the results didn't meet the quality standards we have in mind, and quality is essential to us for this project. For this reason, we've decided that for now we'll only support 2 languages: Italian and English. In upcoming game updates, we'll gradually roll out support for new languages.
In light of all these changes, we feel it's the right call to remove the current demo from the store right away, since we'll soon be releasing a massive update containing everything mentioned above.
The time has come to bring Swappy World into the world — the countdown has begun!
August 15, 2026: release of the new game demo
November 3, 2026: release of the Early Access version of the game!
One last thing: On September 1, 2026, we'll be taking part in the Steam "Survival Crafting Games" event. If you'd like to support us during the event, spreading the word would be a huge help — we're a team of just 2 people with no budget behind us to fund marketing. Stay Tuned!
