A New 12-Night Campaign

The campaign now follows a more structured 12-night journey, with escalating enemy pressure, new narrative milestones, and a clearer path toward victory.

After completing the campaign, you can continue defending your kingdom in an extended survival challenge.

Royal Decrees

Major decisions now appear on Days 3, 6, and 9.

Each decree changes the direction of your kingdom by affecting its economy, defenses, combat strength, or long-term survival. Your choices persist throughout the campaign, making every run develop differently.

New Challenge Modes

Three challenge modes have been added for players looking for different strategic pressures. Complete the campaign, experiment with new approaches, and compete for a better survival record.

Rebalanced Economy and Progression

We have extensively adjusted:

  • Building and upgrade costs

  • Resource income

  • Repair values

  • Enemy and player progression

  • Night rewards

  • Research pacing

  • Barracks and defensive tower balance

These changes make early decisions more meaningful while providing more viable strategies later in the campaign.

Improved Building and Repair Systems

Building placement is now validated more reliably, including after loading a save.

Repairing, upgrading, and rebuilding defenses now provide clearer costs and more consistent results. Several issues involving invalid placement, restored buildings, and incorrect prices have also been fixed.

More Reliable Combat

This update improves several important combat systems:

  • More reliable enemy death handling

  • Improved target cleanup for Wizard Towers

  • Safer end-of-night enemy removal

  • More consistent defeat and victory states

  • Improved handling of simultaneous combat events

New Save System

Game progress is now stored in a versioned JSON save file with automatic backup support.

The new system includes:

  • Automatic save validation

  • Backup recovery for damaged saves

  • Compatibility with older saved progress

  • More reliable restoration of buildings, resources, research, decrees, and challenge state

Steam Leaderboards

A new global survival leaderboard has been added.

Reach the highest night you can and compare your result with other players. The leaderboard records your best result and displays the global top ten from the main menu.

Full Controller and Steam Input Support

The game can now be played using Steam Input, with bundled default layouts for:

  • Steam Deck

  • Xbox controllers

  • PlayStation controllers

  • Nintendo Switch Pro controllers

  • Steam Controller

  • Generic gamepads

Controller support covers movement, aiming, combat, construction, repairs, menus, pause screens, decisions, and leaderboards.

Expanded Language Support

The interface now supports all 31 Steam languages:

Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin American Spanish, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

Font handling and right-to-left presentation have also been improved.

Interface Improvements

  • Improved controller navigation

  • Clearer campaign and challenge information

  • Updated victory, defeat, decree, and battle report text

  • Improved dynamic text localization

  • Consistent fonts throughout the game

  • Better support for long translated text

Bug Fixes

This update also fixes numerous issues involving:

  • Save corruption and recovery

  • Duplicate enemy deaths

  • Invalid building placement

  • Incorrect building prices

  • Missing targets

  • End-of-night rewards

  • Game speed controls

  • Menu and pause navigation

  • Localization placeholders

  • Font inconsistencies

  • Loading older saves

Thank you for playing and supporting Fortress of the Fallen. We look forward to seeing how long your kingdom can survive.
