Dead Sector is a neon-isometric datacenter management sim about building your servers from the components up - then keeping it alive as the load climbs, the power sags, and the incidents start rolling in. And this month, you can play the preview of it for free.
Design your own servers. Build your servers component by component in the board designer - CPUs, RAM, storage drives, GPUs - and route the traces to connect it all up yourself.
Build the floor. Rack your servers, run and organize power and network cables, drop in cooling, and start loading them up with work.
Serve a living economy. Contracts bring demand - web, storage, AI, batch - and your floor has to actually have the capacity, bandwidth, and uptime to serve it without interruption or risk losing clients and money.
Keep it running. UPS chains brown out under overdraw, weather trips breakers, drives fail, and heat throttles anything you did not cool. Fix it yourself or hire a team of technicians to give you a hand.
Go deeper than you need to. Overclock your silicon past its rated ceiling squeezing out every drop of performance, create and mount storage volumes quickly using the in-game terminal, and invest in research that lets you specialize your abilities and unlock unique hardware.
The demo is a self-contained early preview - enough to design a working data center, take on your first simple contracts, and start scaling out while still leaving plenty to explore once the full release drops.
The full build-and-serve core: floor construction, the board designer, contracts, and demand.
Your first faults and incidents to fix, and the systems that cause them.
A minimal working cluster is provided to get help get you started.
Although progression is capped during the demo, your demo save carries over to the full release so you can pick up right where you left off. Progression, unlocks and research perks are limited during the demo but play time is not.
Dead Sector is in active development by a solo developer, and this demo exists to find out what lands and what does not before launch. If, while building your datacenter, something feels great, confusing, or broken, tell me. The discussions board and the community are the fastest way in.
The demo goes live this September. The best thing you can do right now: Wishlist and Follow Dead Sector here Dead Sector on Steam
Wish listing tells me you are interested, puts the demo in your library the moment it drops, and genuinely helps a small project get seen. Just launched our Discord server, drop in and say hello!
