Level Editor Beta Update - Community Trails

The Level Editor beta update is now live on the Steam beta branch - the big one ahead of the full editor release.

Community Trails

You can now browse user generated levels directly in-game — from the main menu and from the trail selection. Download, rate and (if needed) report them right there. This is also the groundwork for cross-platform support.

Levels moved off Steam Workshop

Levels are now stored on Playfab. They will still be published to the Workshop for visibility, but the published files there are no longer compatible — so all levels need to be republished to be available for others again. Sorry for the extra work, it's a one-time step, and republishing restores everything including comments and ratings. Also worth knowing: the folder layout changed. On first launch the game moves your local level files into subfolders automatically.

Lots of editor polish

Prop clipboard, configurable Time Trials/Tricks/Freeride challenges, a screenshot tool for publishing, plus a pile of river, path and prop fixes. Full change log below.

Still a beta

To be clear: this is the beta branch only for now. We want to see how it holds up with your levels before it goes out to everyone — which we hope will be very soon. We tested compatibility a lot, but if anything looks off with your existing levels, please reach out right away. Thoughts, bugs and feature requests are highly appreciated!

Changes in v1.4.402

("leveleditor" Beta Branch only)

New Features

  • Major: Community Trails - you can now browse user generated levels from the main menu, but also from the trail selection. There you can download, rate and - if needed - report them.

Changes

  • [Steam Level Editor] Critical: User generated levels are now stored not on Steam Workshop anymore, however they will still be published there for visibility. Important: all levels require republishing to be available for others again.

  • [Steam Level Editor] Major: The folder layout has changed and upon first launch the game moves the local level files into subfolders.

Improvements & Polishing

  • Critical: Reduced frame drop sometimes occurring when crossing a finish line

  • Minor: Refactored file storage system for smoother loading/saving

  • Minor: Logs should show less false-positive error messages about files not being found.

  • [Steam Level Editor] Major: Copy clipboard for props.

  • [Steam Level Editor] Major: Optional configurable Time Trials, Tricks & Freeride challenges

  • [Steam Level Editor] Major: Screenshot Tool for creating screenshots of your level and uploading while publishing your level.

Fixes

  • Critical: Fixed stopping on checkpoint bug

  • Minor: Clipping issues between several customization items

  • Minor: Fixed that the Freeride UI was not showing time improvements

  • [Steam Level Editor] Major: River's end is updated when the last point is deleted. So new points get connected properly.

  • [Steam Level Editor] Major: River flow doesn't go into the wrong direction when a new point is added to the river's start.

  • [Steam Level Editor] Minor: Props in the Prop List can be fully deselected again.

  • [Steam Level Editor] Minor: Reinstated proper behavior for adding and deleting path points by holding CTRL and clicking on the point to delete or between points to add.

  • [Steam Level Editor] Minor: Sloping Paths work consistently and the behavior is no longer depending on the position and rotation of the path point.

Known Issues

  • [Steam Level Editor] Major: Weather Effects for Snow not spawning globally.
