Dear Abbots and Abbesses!

A new update for Monastery: Ora et Labora demo is now available!

We want to begin by thanking our amazing community for playing the demo and sharing their thoughts. Your feedback, ideas, and bug reports have played a crucial role in guiding our development efforts. Keep it coming!

This update brings new features to test your management skills, new ways to decorate your monastery, and a range of balance adjustments and bug fixes.

✨ Highlighted Features

Daily Events: At the start of each day, events may now occur in the monastery, bringing new situations and unexpected challenges. (More events will be added in the future!)

Wall Coverings: You can now customize the appearance of your monastery walls with different coverings. Give your buildings a personal, and immersive look!

🛠️ Full Changelog

🏛️New Items

Expand the beauty of your abbey with new decorations and architectural elements:

  • Altar pieces

  • Stained glass windows with images

  • Railing openings

  • Terracotta and Marble floors

  • Wall candelabras

⚖️ Game Balance

  • Monastery Progression: Added 5 new progression nodes to unlock.

  • Needs Split: Thirst and hunger needs are now handled separately for more realistic management.

  • Prayer: Adjusted the way active prayer duration is handled.

  • Monastic Rules: Reworked how some Monastic Rule effects apply. The positive effects gained when monks eat and drink well are now scaled proportionally to the number of monks in the monastery. Beware, however: negative effects are applied per monk and can scale indefinitely!

  • Economy: Adjusted various item prices and increased the initial Merchant budget.

  • Merchant Schedule: The Merchant has been removed from the Global Events calendar and now follows their own independent arrival schedule. You can easily track the time until their next visit via a new progress bar on the Merchant button.

🖱️ UX/UI & Controls

  • Center Guides: Added center guides to greatly improve precision during object placement.

  • Custom Controls: Added a new option to remap mouse button controls in the settings.

🧠 AI & Interactions

  • Monk AI: Improved the logic and efficiency of monk work AI.

  • Accessibility: Beds and walls can now be interacted with from both sides.

🎨 Graphics

  • Visually changed the top appearance of walls depending on whether a roof is present above them.

  • Updated the Wall Door 3D model.

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that prevented the deletion of walls near tall objects (e.g., bookshelves, stoves).

  • Fixed a bug that prevented placing objects after deleting a wall.

  • Fixed the name display for "Large Painting C".

  • Fixed an issue where Monastic Rule values were not displayed correctly.

  • Fixed the animation that plays when monks refill candles.

  • Fixed an issue in item tooltips that incorrectly indicated an item was placed in the wrong room.

Thank you again for your continued support and for helping us shape the game.
