Remember the cute little crew of dogs puttering around in a submarine? They've had a rough few months. Salty Dogs has changed dramatically, and this is far more than a content update. It's a bigger, deeper, and much meaner version of the game, and a new playtest goes live today.
Harpoons are no longer your only option. You can now fight with shotguns, assault rifles, and a range of experimental weapons, including balloon guns that lift enemies and help you collect loot.
The playtest now includes a fourth level and a proper boss fight. We've also added many new fish species, including dangerous corrupted variants. The deeper you descend, the stranger and more brutal the ocean becomes.
Upgrades no longer hand you a simple stat bump. Each one adds a meaningful new feature to your submarine, from extra weapons and loot-collection tools to a robotic vacuum that gathers loot for you.
We've added contracts and quests, improved progression between runs, introduced difficulty modifiers, and created temporary boosters that open up more ways to prepare for each descent.
The dogs have changed too. New commando-inspired skins turn the once-cute crew into a squad of scarred, heavily armed veterans descending into the depths for revenge. The beach hub has also been reworked, with many more customization options.
On top of that we've updated the HUD, expanded destructible objects and loot interactions, improved the visuals and audio, and added plenty of smaller features across almost every part of the game.
The playtest starts NOW! New players are being invited to try this much larger version of the game, and everyone who joined the previous playtest gets access again.
Grab your weapons, upgrade your submarine, descend into the depths, and tell us what you think of the new Salty Dogs.
