Poly Plaza ULTIMATE 2.0
This is the biggest update Poly Plaza ULTIMATE has ever had, and it earns the version number.
Three things headline it: online co-op for up to four players, a completely redone UI, and full gamepad support across the whole game.
Here is everything.
Online Co-op
You can now play Poly Plaza with friends. Open Play Co-op from the main menu, pick your save, then host a world or join one.
- Up to 4 players in a session. If it holds up well, I will look at raising that in a future update.
- Joining is a room code. The host shares their code, you type it in, you are in.
- Crossplay on every platform Poly Plaza ULTIMATE is available on. Your friend does not need to own it in the same place you do.
- You bring your own character. Your level, your money and your inventory all come with you into someone else's world.
One thing to understand before you jump in: the world belongs to the host. Any house bought during the session is owned by them, and the rent from it goes to them. You keep your character, your money and your stuff, but you are building up their city, not yours.
If the host leaves the session, everyone else gets returned to the main menu.
Co-op is experimental for now. It is the first version of a system I have been building for a while, and it will have bugs. If you hit one, please tell me (see the bottom of this post) and I will get it fixed.
A completely new UI
I rebuilt the interface. Every menu, every panel. The biggest wins:
- A clearer crafting panel. Every recipe shows a status (Ready, Short on materials, Locked, Unavailable), what it makes, what you have versus what you need, and your character requirements. If Craft is greyed out, it tells you why.
- An interaction dot in the centre of the screen. It lights up when something in front of you can be interacted with, so you are not watching the corner of the screen.
- Stat explanations in the inventory. Every stat says what it affects, and the points banner explains where points come from.
- A new save screen. It asks for a character name, with Create and Play right under the field.
- Proper logo art on the main menu and loading screen.
- Mission and stat text is translated into every supported language, along with the settings menu input labels.
Full gamepad support
The whole game is playable on a controller now, start to finish. That meant fixing a long list of small things that each made it a bit awkward and together made it unusable:
- Lists scroll to follow your selection instead of leaving the next row off screen.
- The save screen lets you reach Continue after picking a slot.
- Inventory tabs can be navigated and scrolled.
- Selling in the shop works the same way buying always has.
- The Collect prompt responds to the button the HUD says it does.
- The stat point notification ends with your live Inventory binding, so it follows any rebind and shows the controller glyph when you are on a pad.
Tell me what breaks
Co-op is brand new and the UI rebuild touched almost every screen in the game, so there will be things I missed. If you run into something, come tell me on Discord at discord.gg/vgs. I read the Steam discussions too, but Discord is the fastest way to reach me.
Thanks for playing Poly Plaza ULTIMATE,
Cheers,
Victor
