The Gloomvex v0.8.0.x update is now live!
The Vex has spread deeper into the arena.
What was once a controlled combat zone is beginning to collapse under dimensional corruption. The battlefield has grown darker, more unstable, and more hostile. Ruined perimeter structures, wreckage, smoke, and broken machinery now surround the arena, while enemies appear less colorful and more deeply corrupted by the Vex.
This update introduces two major new gameplay systems: Vex Synthesis and Capsules. Alongside these additions, the update also brings new hybrid weapons, expanded Compendium entries, improved HUD feedback, real-time DPS tracking, upgraded highscores, arena visual improvements, balance adjustments, audio improvements, a new lower base price, and several important bug fixes.
Vex Synthesis adds a new Epic weapon system to Gloomvex.
Once you have compatible Rare weapons during a run, the new synthesis popup can appear after leveling up. Two Rare weapons can then be fused into one powerful Epic hybrid weapon.
This update adds 10 new hybrid weapons:
Declined synthesis offers can appear again on later level-ups, so you are not forced to commit immediately. Weapon fusion progression is now capped at Rare before synthesis.
Capsules are new destructible arena objects that can appear during a run.
Each Capsule has 50 HP and triggers one of several random effects when destroyed. These effects can create XP bursts, fields, explosions, chain lightning, temporary drones, or even a free Level-Up menu.
Capsules can drop from Elite enemies with a 0.5% chance and can also appear during a run approximately every 90–150 seconds.
Possible Capsule effects include:
The Capsule System has also been added to the Compendium with details about health, effects, spawn behavior, Elite drop chance, and timing rules.
This update adds real-time DPS tracking based on actual damage dealt to enemies over a rolling 3-second window. Overkill damage is capped, so only the enemy’s remaining HP counts toward DPS.
The HUD now shows:
The Highscore screen has also been upgraded with a new scorecard-style layout and additional run data:
Permanent stat upgrades are now limited to 10 levels and have been rebalanced.
At level 10, upgrades now reach the following values:
Starting Level has been removed as a permanent upgrade and replaced with three new upgrades:
Permanent upgrade prices have also been standardized across all stat upgrades.
Stormrage and Lightning Chain are now available from the start.
Lightning Chain has been adjusted, with its base chain jump count reduced from 3 to 2. An issue where its cooldown was triggered even when no enemy was in range has also been fixed.
Homing Missile, Flamethrower, and several damage number behaviors have received fixes and balance adjustments. Pause Menu stat support has also been added for all new Vex Synthesis weapons.
Achievement requirements have been rebalanced to improve unlock pacing, especially during the first few minutes of a run.
The default game speed has been changed to 150%, while still remaining adjustable in the options.
Hit sound handling has been improved to reduce audio spam during intense combat.
Hit sounds are now limited to:
Multi-shot weapons such as Shotgun, Inferno Scatter, and Shredder Cannon now trigger only one hit sound per volley instead of one per projectile.
Several sound effects have also been reduced in volume for a cleaner overall mix, and sound behavior for the final boss, Dimensional Rift, has been corrected.
This update includes several important fixes and technical improvements:
With this update, we have also lowered the base price of Gloomvex.
This change is intended to make the game more accessible while development continues and more content, systems, and improvements are added over time.
Thank you for playing Gloomvex and for following the development.
As always, feedback is very welcome.
