Developer's Notes #5

Greetings Sentinels

In Developer's Note #5, we would like to focus on the Matrix System, which plays a vital role in combat and class progression, alongside several other development updates.

Beyond refining hitbox detection and the tactile feedback of combat, we have focused on addressing class imbalances and combat redundancy. By introducing the Matrix System, we aim to deliver deeper mechanical complexity and a more dynamic gameplay experience.

(The following details are currently under development and are subject to change)

The Matrix System

The Matrix System is a node-based progression system that moves away from linear paths, allowing characters to be tailored to specific combat styles. This system is designed to maintain the unique identity of each class and weapon while offering a more specialized combat experience.

Even within the same weapon, combat styles are further diversified based on the stats allocated through the Matrix, acquired passive skills, and the attributes of equipped gear.

Within the Matrix, players can direct their progression to suit their specific needs. Meeting specialization requirements unlocks unique skills and stats that refine each combat style. As choices influence casting speeds, effects, and combat rhythm, even the same skill can feel distinct, enabling players to experiment and master their own personalized meta.

Since primary skills and combat patterns change depending on the progression path, the variety in character specialization and combat utility will be significantly expanded. We look forward to sharing more specific details about the Matrix System in the days to come.

Overcoming Challenges: The Supporter System

Starting with the first Chrono Gate, players will have the option to challenge and clear combat encounters alongside an NPC Supporter.

While we strive for a sense of unrestricted exploration in the open world, we recognized that players occasionally faced sudden difficulty spikes or lacked clear guidance on how to move forward. To address this, we are redesigning the progression balance to be more seamless, providing intuitive guidance on gear levels required for specific content. The Supporter System was developed as a key part of this effort.

The Supporter System is an optional auxiliary feature designed to ensure smooth gameplay. Beyond simply adjusting the difficulty, we hope this system adds a new layer of enjoyment to the journey.

Monster Equipment

Players can now obtain equipment that mirrors the appearance and characteristics of the monsters found throughout the world.

You might enter battle wearing a helmet crafted from the remains of the Void or wield weapons looted from notorious bounty targets. It is even possible to defeat terrifying world bosses to earn gear of their likeness. Going beyond mere stats, we want players to immerse themselves in the lore of Setera through world boss hunts, crafting, and quest completions.

QoL Improvements

We are consistently optimizing our systems to ensure a more seamless and intuitive gameplay experience.

  • Channel System

    • A multi-channel architecture has been implemented to bolster server stability and manage player density.

    • High-performance gameplay is maintained even in crowded regions or during large-scale world events.

  • Compass

    • Height indicators have been added.

    • Objective locations are significantly easier to identify in complex environments like deep caves or hidden cliffside paths.

  • World Map Markers

    • Quest markers are now visible on the World Map.

    • Tracking active quests and planning efficient travel routes is now more streamlined.

  • World Map Icons

    • Status indicators have been added to map icons.

    • Distinct visuals differentiate between discovered and incomplete dungeons.

    • Undiscovered, discovered, and cleared statuses are trackable at a glance for easier management

Thank you for continuing to support Chrono Odyssey. We will return with more news in our next Developer's Note!

Until then,
