Controller Support & Demo Achievements

You asked for controller support. It's here.

A player wrote to me a while back asking for controller support for accessibility
reasons — they can't use a keyboard and mouse for long stretches. I said I was working
on it. This is that update.

It isn't a partial job. You can play the entire game on a controller, from the main
menu to the end of a shift, without touching the keyboard once.

What that means

  • Everything is on the pad. Walking, looking, picking up, filling boxes,
shelving, throwing, the cart, your skills, ending the shift.
  • Menus work properly. Move between buttons with the stick or the D-pad, A to
select, B to go back. Sliders adjust with the shoulder buttons.
  • On-screen prompts match your controller. The tutorial and the skill bar show
the actual buttons — and they switch the moment you pick up a pad or go back to the
mouse. Keyboard players get key icons now too.
  • Xbox and PlayStation. Both are supported, and the prompts show the right
symbols for the one you're holding.
  • Separate look sensitivity. A pad stick and a mouse aren't the same thing, so
they don't share a setting anymore.

Achievements in the demo

The demo now has six achievements — your first packed box, your first finished aisle,
the shift quota in the Big Warehouse, cleaning the Small Warehouse to 100%, your first
skill, and loading up the cart.

One thing worth saying plainly: demo achievements are separate from the full game.
That's how Steam works — a demo is its own application with its own list. The full game
will have its own, larger set. I'd rather tell you that now than have you find out after
a 100% run.

Also fixed

  • The green placement frame lied. It showed you an empty slot on a shelf, but
clicking picked up the box that was already there. Now the click does what the frame
    promises.
  • The cart lit up like a christmas tree while you were carrying a box, and the
prompt said "push the cart" when the button would actually load it. Both fixed.
  • Tutorial highlights bled between warehouses. Start a shift in one warehouse,
leave, start another, and a crate in the first one stayed glowing green forever.
  • Warehouse cards described the wrong warehouse. The Medium and Big cards were
showing the Small Warehouse's description. The Medium card now also tells you what makes
it different: its shelves aren't in tidy rows, they're scattered.

What's next

Achievements for the full game, and the rest of the languages for the ones already in.
After that, back to the warehouses.

Thanks for playing, and thanks especially to the player who asked for this one. If the
demo is your kind of quiet, the full game is on your wishlist button up there.
