These updates are joined by ongoing work on the Fire Control Radar, avionics and sensor refinements, multiplayer improvements, and a host of bug fixes. Take off into one of the best DCS multiplayer experiences where every sortie actually matters! Strike Package Studios puts players into a living PvP battlefield where the campaign is shaped by the people flying, fighting, attacking, defending, commanding ground units, striking strategic targets, managing resources, and pushing objectives in real time.
Contention is built around a constantly evolving battlefield where each team’s attacks and defenses directly shape the flow of the campaign. Objectives change hands based on player action, strategy matters, and every sortie can help push the front line forward. Players can also strike strategic targets to affect each team’s economy, making deep strike missions meaningful beyond simple target destruction. The servers are player-focused with no AI aircraft except bomber raids, keeping the air war centered around real PvP engagements.
Players can jump into the ground war as Tactical Commanders, where they can create units, command them toward objectives, or drive vehicles themselves. Teams can also use the CTLD system to spend their resources on building ground vehicles, deploying air defenses, upgrading strategic points, and strengthening airfields. This gives each side more ways to influence the campaign beyond just flying.
Strike Package Studios runs Contention across multiple maps, including Caucasus (free to every DCS player), Syria (one of the best multiplayer maps), and Persian Gulf on both the main and Cold War servers. Germany has also been featured on the Cold War server, with plans to bring it back and potentially run it on the main server as well. We are also working on future missions for Sinai.
The main Contention server features all available DCS modules and rotates through everything from full, modern, unrestricted weapons with AWACS and datalink to reduced situational awareness and early Fox-1 missile scenarios. Contention Cold War focuses on Cold War and earlier modules, ranging from early Fox-2 missile combat to early Fox-1 scenarios, with special campaign progression opportunities to unlock limited late Cold War aircraft such as the F-14A and full-fidelity MiG-29A Fulcrum.
