Why I'm making Merchant Miles

Merchant Miles is now on Steam!

I’ve always loved trading games: the feeling of spotting an opportunity, taking a risk on a new product, and gradually learning what works. But I wanted to make one that feels a little more personal. Less like staring at spreadsheets and more like running a small stall on the road.

In Merchant Miles, you’ll buy goods, decide what can fit in your barrels, travel between towns, set up for the day, and see what people actually want. Some things will sell immediately. Some will sit there all day while everyone asks for the one thing you decided not to bring.

That uncertainty is a big part of what I want the game to capture. You can plan carefully, but you never know exactly how a day will go until the customers start arriving. Maybe your prices are a little too high. Maybe a local supplier has made one item much easier to find. Maybe this town simply has different tastes than the last one.

At the end of each day, you can look back at what happened: what sold, what didn’t, what customers were looking for, and whether it might be time to adjust your stock, or maybe try another town entirely.

The goal is for every town to feel a little different, with its own opportunities, preferences, and problems to solve. I want a bad day to feel like useful information rather than just bad luck. Maybe you packed the wrong goods. Maybe you misjudged the prices. Or maybe the next town is where the real opportunity is waiting.

More than anything, I want Merchant Miles to be about learning the road as you travel it. Slowly building confidence, getting to know your trade, and turning a modest little stall into something you’re genuinely proud of.

I’ll be sharing more as the game comes together: towns, customers, goods, suppliers, and all the little problems a travelling merchant has to deal with.

Merchant Miles is planned for Early Access January 2027.
