Hello everyone!
Every boss in Portalborn is now keeping something — and if you beat them often enough, it might follow you home.
Every boss has its own unique pet. ⭐ There is no shared drop pool — the Wendigo's cub comes from the Wendigo, and nowhere else.
If you want a particular pet, you know exactly which fight to go back to.
Beat a boss for the first time and it enters your Pet Compendium with its pet listed as ???, along with the boss's name and where to find it.
Keep hunting that boss, and eventually its pet will drop.
Bosses you have never encountered do not appear at all. ⚠️ Your compendium grows as you explore instead of spoiling all thirty-eight bosses the moment you create a character.
A new 🐾 PETS button now sits above the input bar. You can also type pets — or 宠物图鉴 in Chinese.
The compendium shows every boss you have encountered, which pets you have collected, and which pet is currently accompanying you.
⭐ Click any collected pet to make it your active companion.
Pets do not fight.
⭐ They take no turns, make no attacks, and add nothing to the combat log.
Instead, your active pet follows you, can be rubbed, and makes you better at something you were already doing.
Only one pet at a time can be your active companion, and that pet provides its full passive effect.
But collecting the others still matters.
Every pet you own also provides half of its effect while inactive. ⇒ A Critical Damage pet still sharpens your critical hits while resting. An Inventory Space pet still gives you a little more room in your pack.
⭐ That means building a collection has real value — but choosing which pet travels at your side always gives that particular bonus its strongest effect.
Pet bonuses currently include:
Gold · Experience · Critical Damage · Inventory Space · Mana Recovery · Strength · Dexterity · Intelligence · Constitution
💡 And this is only the first version. If there are other passive effects you would like pets to provide, or little interactions you would like to have with the creature following you, please suggest them! I would love to hear what would make your pets feel more useful, interesting, or simply more alive.
This is also an early test of something the Hero Classes need.
Several Hero Classes are being designed around companions and summons that support you without simply becoming another attacker. ⭐ That required building a way for a creature at your side to meaningfully change what you can do without adding another source of turns, attacks, and combat-log noise.
Pets are the first use of that system — arriving early in a form you can collect and play with right now.
⚠️ What we learn from how these companions feel in actual play will help shape the companion mechanics used by the Hero Classes later.
Mana Recovery bonuses are now working correctly. ⭐ Anything granting Mana Recovery — including your existing gear — is now properly reflected in how much mana you actually regenerate.
Several Chinese command instructions have also been corrected. ⚠️ Some were telling Chinese players to type an English command, and one was pointing them toward the wrong command entirely.
The attribute-reset instructions now name the correct button and provide the correct Chinese command ⭐ instead of directing players toward a word that means something considerably more drastic.
Thank you all, as always.
