Newer Hotbar

We value your quick feedback after yesterday's release, so we’ve redesigned the new Hotbar inventory UI to resemble the legacy version.

It now features larger and more prominent ammo indicators for better visibility:

Hotbar:

Backpack (expanded):

Controls work like this now (in new mode, you can still switch to legacy mode):

  • Left mouse button / Right pad trigger -> use item selected in Hotbar (e.g. gun)

  • Right mouse button / Left pad trigger -> use drill ("quick drill")

  • Mouse scroll / D-pad left-right -> select item in Hotbar

  • CTRL + mouse scroll / D-pad up-down -> camera zoom (3 levels)

  • Tab / pad X (square) -> show/hide backpack (you can still play with expanded backpack like in legacy mode)

  • You can move items between backpack and Hotbar using mouse or D-pad and X.

Added

  • Pause Help: a full-screen, read-only list of your current keyboard and controller binds, with Xbox/PlayStation glyphs (in-game: Esc -> Help)

Changed

  • Starting packages: Mining also starts with two backpack levels and luck; Fortification has 500 metal, a foam gun (300) with fireproof foam and metal stacking, and the first health and backpack upgrades; Expedition has 500 lumen, 120 repair charges, lava cooling, lumen stacking, and the first speed and backpack upgrades (Play Game -> Start Random Map)

  • Lumen Farm mushrooms drop 5× (25, or 50 with Packed Mushrooms)

  • Lab Search costs 5 lumen (was 10); Automatic Discovery costs 35 (was 70); the Search terminal is highlighted

  • Lava is brighter in the dark (was easy to mistake for rusty metal); walls and ore are unchanged

  • Lumen and Metal stacks hold 200, or 400 with their stacking research. Item Racks hold 600/1200; existing amounts stay unchanged and fill bars use the new capacity

  • Controller: L3 sprint, R3 dodge, hold LT/L2 for a temporary drill that returns to the previous item, RT/R2 fire. LB/RB change Hotbar slots

  • Left click and the pad fire button always shoot, even with an interact prompt; screens, gates and the rest still need the interact key

  • Three camera zoom steps (`-`/`=`, Ctrl+scroll, or d-pad up/don

  • Open inventory is a HUD again: you walk, aim and shoot. Hotbar sits in the corners; mission text sits under the health bar

  • Redesigned Hotbar and backpack with clearer item details and controls

  • While placing a building, LB/RB or d-pad left/right rotate the preview

  • 4 turrets per reactor level (was 3). The third Machine Gun, Sniper and Bomb turret upgrade no longer needs research

  • Turrets Upgrade research still unlocks the other turret types' third upgrades and remains a prerequisite for later turret research

Fixed

  • Exclusive fullscreen is exclusive; borderless stays a borderless window

  • Campaign Hub play counts for Steam achievements

  • Scout Center Speed goes to 11, so I am Speed! can unlock -> it was supposed to be kind of an Easter Egg - reaching 11 was only possible using upgrade Orb, but there were multiple "bugs" reported, so we "fixed" it

  • Spark in the Dark, Party Crusher and 3.6 Not great, not terrible use the intended conditions

  • Workshop conveyor no longer dumps a crafted item into the player; queued pistol/shotgun shots fire that weapon, not the drill or flare

  • Triple-tap auto-drill works again; DualSense on USB no longer registers as two pads

  • The bug reporting screen hides controller hints when using mouse and keyboard

  • Failed feedback submissions no longer hang, and save slot names trim leading and trailing spaces

  • English copy proofread (campaign, tutorial, skirmish and hints)
