In case you haven't played it (yet), Stories: The Path of Destinies is a tongue-in-cheek self-aware epic hero’s journey, with Reynardo the sly fox, an evil emperor named Isengrim, his daughter the fabulous princess Zenobia, and a tricksy rabbit Lapino.
For Ever After Again: A Stories Adventure, we wanted to take the storytelling a little farther. We’re ten years later (just like in real life!) and Reynardo hasn’t been hero-ing much lately; he’s settled down with the lovely Zenobia, keeping busy playing canasta and growing prize chrysanthemums. But how can his brilliant wife still love him, if he’s not hero-ing? She’s so out of his league!
Meanwhile he’s neglected his brother, the Pirate King… who’s still in love with Zenobia after all those years since sword fu school, when both of them courted her. The Book of Destinies lets you see into the future but now, Reynardo’s going to need to understand his past.
All this takes place in Boreas, a land of wandering islands floating in the clouds over a sea of deadly poisonous green gas. We have toad sorcerers, beaver ambassadors in top hats and monocles, and a worrisome trio of resentful weasels. And, of course, singing sky pirates.
Reynardo, the not-so-sly fox
Breathtakingly brave, reckless, and surprisingly neurotic for an anthropomorphized animal, Reynardo is a swashbuckling hero. You can always count on him to do the right thing, usually after he’s tried the wrong thing a few times. Madly in love with Zenobia. Has an inferiority complex — he’s sure she’s out of his league. How can he live up to her?
Zenobia, the sorceress princess
Beautiful, brilliant, devoted to Reynardo (but he doesn’t trust that!). She grew up as the daughter of an emperor, but discovered that Isengrim only adopted her in order to sacrifice her to an evil god. She fell in love with Reynardo, helped him overthrow the Emperor, married him, and got herself elected mayor of a small town on the fringes of the empire.
Raposo, Reynardo’s kid brother
Always surpassed in fame by his brother, Raposo has replaced Reynardo as Pirate King. He’s younger, more handsome, even more swashbuckling, and he still has both his eyes. Reynardo is going to need his help. But does Raposo need Reynardo any more?
Lapino, the traitorous rabbit
Reynardo’s erstwhile best friend, Lapino repeatedly betrayed him ten years ago – to the point where the only thing Reynardo can count on is another betrayal. Charming, though. Delightful. And, if you’re a fox, tasty.
Calaveras, the wise toad
The wise toad sorcerer who advises Reynardo and Zenobia. Keeper of the Book of Destinies.
The Dark Cloud
A fast-approaching cloud of evil magicks, just like the Emperor used to travel in with his fleet. Did he, somehow, return?
The Evil God
Imprisoned long ago in a mystical temple by the Transcendent Emperor, this evil god longs to be free. And… some other things.
The Three Weasels
Ah, that would be telling.
The Book of Destinies
A mystical codex that allows you to live through your choices before you make them. So you can figure out what not to do. And you can learn Truths previously hidden from you. You will need to find out a number of Truths before you can discover the destiny that leads you to victory.
