We’re already one week past Tyr’s Early Access launch.
We’ve been incredibly happy to see all the feedback coming in and all the time players have already sunk into Tyr. It’s been a great launch, aside from the first 20 minutes when our servers were aggressively hugged by the influx of new players. 😅Thank you for your patience while we got everything situated. Things should have been stable since then, and we’ve been hard at work reading your feedback, digging into the data, and preparing our first post-launch patches. We aim to publish one of these dev updates every two weeks, usually alongside a game update. In this one, we’re looking back at our first week of Early Access, sharing an important upcoming change to the Discord requirement for Clans, breaking down today’s mid-month balance patch, and teasing what’s coming in the larger end-of-month patch. If you're new here, we always publish these dev updates in video and written formats. Find that video below, and the written version after.
Let’s get into it.
We want to share a little context regarding where Tyr is today and how we’re approaching Early Access.
Internally, we had set a target of reaching roughly 1,000 concurrent players at Early Access launch, picking up essentially where we left off in playtesting. We’ve already cleared 3,000 to 4,000 concurrents, which has been a wonderful surprise.More importantly, this launch happened without a paid marketing campaign. No streamers, no ads, no paid trailers, nothing. We wanted to see how our launch went organically with a focus on Tyr and its players. You'll see some ads soon; we have a plan for those, but we wanted this first run to exist without them. Our current reach is also primarily North American and English-language. That represents only a small portion of the worldwide audience for tank games (like 5%, by our guess). Additional languages, regions, and broader marketing efforts are still ahead of us.We want to be transparent about this because Early Access is not a single moment where Tyr either succeeds or fails. Launch was the start of a longer process for us.Our plan is to keep improving the game, release meaningful updates, expand into additional markets, and introduce Tyr to more players over time. We are already growing before most of that work has even started. If you’re enjoying Tyr and wondering how you can help, the best things you can do are play, leave an honest review, share the game with friends, and continue giving us clear feedback. You’ve already helped Tyr outperform our expectations, and we’re only one week in.
I want to be succinct here: this change isn't live yet, we're working on it.We’ve heard your feedback loud and clear. The Discord linking requirement has been one of the most consistent concerns since Early Access began, and we agree that it is creating too much friction. We plan to remove the requirement in an upcoming patch. The original integration was a practical way for our small team to get Clans stood up quickly by leveraging Discord's SDK. Using Discord’s tools allowed Clan members to communicate both inside Tyr and through their existing Clan server without requiring us to build an entirely separate social platform before Early Access. It helped us get the first version of Clans into your hands faster, but it also required players to connect an outside account before they could fully participate in the system. Your feedback has made it clear that Discord should be an option, not a requirement.Once this change is live, you will be able to join and participate in a Clan without connecting your Discord account to Tyr.Discord integration will remain available for Clans that want to use it, but it will no longer be a requirement for Clans.Thank you for being direct and transparent with your feedback. It helps us make Tyr better.
The mid-month balance patch is rolling out alongside this post. If you’re reading this on or after Thursday, September 10th, the patch should already be available to download, and the patch notes should be live on Steam and in Discord. We have a regular patch cadence for Tyr, with larger content patches near the end of each month and smaller balance-focused patches around the middle of the month. These mid-month patches are intentionally smaller than our end-of-month updates. They will not introduce new maps, tanks, or other major content. Instead, they give us an opportunity to respond to the evolving meta with targeted balance adjustments, number tweaks, and bug fixes between larger updates. The biggest change in this balance patch is the small increase in power for Ikarus, alongside a useful survivability buff for Seeker and a very slight nerf to Siphon Shells.
Reduced healing from 20 to 18.
This is a small adjustment, partially aimed at some of what we’ve recently been seeing with Alecto. We’re continuing to look closely at the tank, player feedback, and our internal metrics. We’ll keep making adjustments as we learn more.
Increased track armor from 12 to 16.
Seeker's tracks were more exposed than many other tanks, and given its hunting role, this should make it a little more resilient while moving through fights.
Ikarus is getting a small bump in this patch. Last patch's adjustment successfully made strafing attacks more interactable for opponents, so we can add a bit more power back to its aim speed and maneuverability while thrusting.
Increased aim speed in Flight Form from 1.2 to 1.3.
Increased Transform Heal Tech from 20/40/60 to 25/50/75.
Increased turn speed in Thrust Mode from 360 to 414, a 15% increase.
The following content is not included in today’s balance patch. It is planned for our larger content update at the end of the month.
We’re not ready to show you everything just yet, but we do have a few things to tease.
Custom horns will return as cosmetics in the September 24th update. You’ll be able to purchase horns with Gold or discover them through Territory Scans, giving you a few new ways to make your favorite tanks sound as distinctive as they look.
A new map will also be joining the queue with the end-of-month patch. For now, all we’re sharing is this glimpse of its nighttime skybox. We’ll have much more to show and tell you when the map, ****, is ready to roll out later this month.
Our next community tournament kicks off Saturday, September 19th. Team Cyanic will return to defend its title, but it will have more challengers than ever standing between it and another championship.First place will take home $1,300 USD, second place $700, and third and fourth place $250 each. Teams are now locked in for the September 19th tournament. Registration is still open, apologies for the error. If you’d like to compete in a future tournament, join the Tyr Discord. That’s where we post registration forms, rules, team-finding resources, and tournament announcements. We’ll also be streaming the championship bout, so even if you aren’t competing, you’ll be able to watch the final teams battle for the title.
Early Access is only the beginning. We’re reading your feedback, watching how the meta develops, fixing issues, and working toward our first major post-launch content update later this month.Thank you for playing, sharing your thoughts, and sticking with us through those first 20 aggressively hugged minutes. You’ve already helped Tyr surpass our expectations, and we’re incredibly excited about where it goes from here. We’ll see you on the battlefield. 🫡
