We've been at it for a while on Kickstarter, and we have a lot to tell you about!Development on Alchemic Beasts is moving along as planned, and we've been updating the game frequently based on what we've learned from everyone playing the demo. We loved hearing what you think about the game on Reddit, Discord, and our other social media platforms. Your feedback has helped us identify where things are working, where they aren't, and where we can make the experience better. One of our biggest focuses has been making the game's many systems easier to learn. We've added and expanded tutorials for combat, bonding, capturing, and crafting, giving players more guidance without taking away the opportunity to experiment and discover things for themselves. The game's combat was always intended to be challenging and strategic. We want players to think about how they use their beasts offensively and defensively, take advantage of passive abilities, manage their trainer, and build a team that can handle different situations. However, the demo showed us that some encounters were pushing that philosophy too far.The trainer and gargoyle battles in particular were designed as difficult strategic encounters, but many players were being overwhelmed before they had enough time to really understand and engage with the game's systems. At that point, the challenge stops being rewarding and starts becoming frustrating. We've significantly rebalanced these encounters to make them more approachable, especially this early in the game. Alchemic Beasts will still challenge you, but we want that challenge to come from making meaningful decisions, not from being crushed before you've had the chance to learn how everything works.
Crafting was another system where the demo taught us a lot. There are quite a few possibilities within the crafting and alchemy systems, but players weren't always sure what they were doing or why. We've now created a more thorough crafting tutorial that walks through the process step by step, making it much easier to understand how everything fits together and start experimenting with creating items. There's much more to crafting and alchemy than what players initially encounter, so giving everyone a stronger foundation here was important to us.
New Evolutions and Beast Variants!
We also added some missing natural evolutions, along with new variants for beasts such as Megsquito, Cinderbug, and we’re planning on putting the Buzzel’s variants out soon! We're not going to show everything just yet, but stay tuned. We'll be revealing more of these new forms in future updates!
We've also introduced a mini-map to make exploration smoother while highlighting some of the interactive elements hidden throughout each area. The mini-map can show obstacles such as vines that can be burned or slashed, areas where a beast's Dig ability can be used, and other points of interest throughout the world. Once something hidden has been detected, it can also appear on the mini-map, making it much easier to return to later. We think this does more than make navigation easier. It gives each area another layer of identity and introduces a fun completionist element for players who want to uncover everything a location has to offer. Can you complete the whole map?
These changes address some of the biggest things we've learned from players so far, but development hasn't stopped there. As we continue, we'll also be showing much more of the cozy side of Alchemic Beasts, including farming, fishing, building, and the ways these systems interact with your beasts and the rest of the game.Battling and capturing are only part of life with your beasts, and we're excited to start showing more of what happens outside of combat.
Special thanks to GNOMONIC!
