Hey Wanderers. Surprise!

Today is the day. A new host of friends have found their way no-clipping into the Backrooms, as Escape the Backrooms is now available on Xbox Series X|S – including PC and Xbox Game Pass - and PlayStation 5.

Team up with these new folks using the brand-new cross-platform lobby code system, create new friends and memories, and most importantly, dance around the party table in Level Fun while humming You Day and chugging Almond Water! Oh, and not dying I suppose...

As part of this update, we have released a patch right here on Steam, adding the new matchamking system alongside more fixes and improvements. Here are the patch notes below:

Updates:

Cross-platform matchmaking:

  • Added cross-platform matchmaking via Epic Online Services (EOS) without the need to sign into an Epic account.

  • Added new lobby codes to allow players to join lobbies for both private and public lobbies.

  • Option added to hide the lobby code, to avoid unwanted party members joining.

  • Cross-platform matchmaking can be disabled in the settings.

  • Cross-platform players will have a logo beside their username to indicate their platform.

  • A warning is displayed alerting players if cross-platform matchmaking is enabled

  • Voice chat is functional on all platforms.

Lobby Menu:

  • You can now select a player to mute voice chat, text chat (PC only), kick, block, or report them.

In-Game Settings:

  • Player scoreboard has now moved into the settings.

  • Players can be muted, kicked, blocked, or reported in the settings.

Block and Reporting Players:

  • Added the ability to block and report players in case of spamming/griefing, etc.

  • A blocked player list is accessible within the main menu or lobby, allowing players to be removed from the list at any time.

Auto Save:

  • An auto save icon message will display at the start of the game, alerting players to the icon.

  • The auto save will appear between level transitions or certain respawn points in a level, alerting a player to where they can resume from.

Additional Changes:

  • Profanity filters now occur in text chat and player names.

  • Due to a bug in its functionality, the HDR setting has been removed. We are investigating a fix and will re-enable this functionality when the issue has been resolved.

  • Updated translations for level names and descriptions in Traditional Chinese, Polish, and Brazilian Portuguese.

  • Updated EULA.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue that prevented players progressing in the second part of the “Cave System” level on low graphics settings due to missing shadows.

  • The ‘Apply' or ‘Keep Old’ settings option after making a settings change now functions as expected.

  • The ’Show Game Chat’ setting can now be selected when navigating up or down with the D-pad.

  • A button has been added for a controller user to use the 'Restore Defaults' option.

  • The resolution will now reset to the default resolution when using the ‘Restore Defaults’ button.

  • An error message will now occur if the host of a lobby disconnects from the internet.

  • Clients that are kicked can no longer rejoin a lobby.

  • The correct messaging will now be displayed when the game host leaves a session.

  • Improved readability on the screens in Hub Area when graphic settings are set to low.

  • Fixed an issue preventing clients from leaving a lobby if the Ready button wasn’t highlighted when using a controller.

  • Audio settings are correctly applied after changing them, no longer requiring the game to be restarted.

  • The initial visual state of some settings is correctly reverted after closing the settings menu without applying the settings.

  • The ‘Show Body' setting can now be re-enabled if previously disabled.

  • Players are now informed that the lobby is full when they fail to join.

  • The ‘Apply' button now correctly appears when editing settings in the Controls or Game tab in the settings menu.

  • Fixed an issue in Russian where the added XP value was shown incorrectly.

  • Voice chat is now correctly off in both lobby and in-game if turned off in the settings.

  • Fixed an issue preventing the correct code from triggering the Security Terminal.

  • Fixed a rare issue where the ‘quit game' module loses focus with joysticks.

  • Fixed an issue where The Hub displayed difficulty information rather than a level description for the host when initially creating a lobby.

  • The ’Enter Save Game Name’ option can no longer be interacted with while the ‘Return to Main Menu?’ pop-up is active.

  • The ‘Show Event Content’ option is not automatically set to ‘Enabled’ upon restarting the game.

Phew, that was a lot. Now, don’t mind us, we’re just gonna switch gears for a bit...

Escape the Backrooms is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PC and Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation 5. We’d love to hear all about your first escape teaming up with console buddies over on our Discord and TikTok accounts.
