New Content:
New Exhibit: The Nurmekund Formation! The oldest among the four-pack of new exhibits, the Nurmekund Formation is a Silurian-aged marine deposit found in the eastern European nation of Estonia. Here you'll find fossils beautifully-preserved fossils of Leveilleites hartnageli, an ancient species of algae.
New Exhibit: The Redonda Formation! Traveling forward in time to the Triassic Period, the Redonda Formation showcases the scapula, coracoid, and partial skull of Redondavenator quayensis, a croc-like predatory reptile from New Mexico, USA. These scans represent the only three bones known thus far from this species!
New Exhibit: The Sannine Formation! Joining the suite of Cretaceous exhibits, this hall displays three complete 95 million-year-old fossils of the extinct prawn Carpopenaeus (with some bonus remains, if you look carefully!). The Sannine Formation is a world-famous deposit exposed in Lebanon, making this the first SHADOWBOX exhibit to display fossils from Asia.
New Exhibit: The Allen Formation! Topping off this batch of new releases, this exhibit displays six dinosaur eggshell fragments collected in Argentina, making this the first set of fossil scans in SHADOWBOX hailing from South America. These fragments, classified under the name Megaloolithus, come from eggs laid by sauropod dinosaurs.
Specimen photos of Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops skulls have been added to the Geological Eras Tour, as well as specimen photos from (and teleporters to) the new exhibits described above.
Enhanced Features:
Autowalk function! Set to X by default, this option makes your player character walk forward on its own. This feature was implemented specifically with the Geological Eras Tour in mind. Press a button, sit back, and let the years fly by!
Bug Fixes:
Lighting has been improved in the Menefee, Fort Crittenden, Fruitland, and Kirtland Formation exhibits.
Fixed an issue where the game would glitch if the player attempts to enter inspection mode while the player model is overlapping multiple inspection spheres.
Fixed a bug that would launch the player into the ceiling when clipping into floating text in the Moreno Hill and Naco Formation exhibits.
Fixed labels for a handful of specimen photos in the Geological Eras Tour.
Final Thoughts:
This is the first release I've done since starting my PhD program in Information Science! In only a few weeks I've already started learning about topics like human-computer interactions and playable archives that will be extremely informative for me as I continue building SHADOWBOX. I will do my best to keep putting out regular updates while this new phase of life begins. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy these new exhibits! -Benjamin
