A new version of the Days Of Reckoning: Last Battle demo is now available!
This update significantly changes the beginning of the demo and improves enemy decision-making, pursuit behavior, the camera, line of sight, controls, and battle audio.
The Demo Now Starts Directly on the Big Map
The original slower introductory map has been removed. When starting a new game, you will now go directly to the strategic Big Map, where you can purchase units and choose which region to attack.
This gets you into the tactical part of the game faster while giving you more control over your army composition and campaign progression from the very beginning.
Smarter Enemies
- Enemies no longer automatically select the closest target. They now choose targets based on the expected outcome of their attack.
- If a target is already within range, they will attack instead of moving unnecessarily.
- Retreating no longer wipes the enemy’s memory. Enemies can follow your trail and continue pursuing your units.
- Firing from the fog reveals the position of the attacking unit.
- During the endgame, the last remaining enemies will actively search for the player instead of hiding in a corner of the map.
- Artillery can no longer target aircraft.
Camera and New Line-of-Sight Model
- The camera now properly frames combat during the enemy turn.
- It also follows enemies that emerge from the fog in the middle of their movement.
- The camera position is preserved when saving and loading a battle.
- The new line-of-sight model allows units on a hilltop to see down the slope below.
- Vision is now mutual—if one unit can see another, the reverse is also true.
- Units can see into forests at close range. Walls and buildings still block line of sight.
Controls and User Interface
- Clicking a tile outside a unit’s range no longer clears the current selection.
- This also prevents the repeated “affirmative” voice line.
- You can deselect a unit by clicking it again, pressing Escape, or right-clicking.
- The red range overlay no longer overexposes the scene.
- The range label is now always displayed.
- The numerical health value now matches the health bar and correctly displays “Combat Ready X/Y.”
Audio, Units, and Map Fixes
- Enemies and vehicles now have new sounds.
- Audio levels have been balanced.
- You can now find 4 infantry units in the first combat mission instead of the original 2.
- Concrete walls are now correctly rotated in the first campaign region and the escort mission.
Important Save Compatibility Notice
Due to a change in the battle save format, battles saved in an older version of the demo cannot be loaded in this build. You will therefore need to start a new battle.
Thank you to everyone who has played the demo. I appreciate all your feedba
