2.3.0: It's About Time

Kemopop! Soundtrack · published 22 days ago

Hello! Long time no see!!

No new content, but 2.3.0 is a massive technical update to Kemopop!, refining the game ahead of DLC 2. Please read on.

Boot Sequence!

Kemopop! now launches immediately into a splash animation, and loading is performed in the background, before the game transitions into the title screen.  Far nicer~ ✨

New Iconography!!

Already live on the Steam release are new client icons for Kemopop!, the Demo, and the Soundtrack. This cute icon replaces the old desktop shortcut!!

Miscellaneous

  • [Engine] The game engine has been upgraded to Godot 4.6. This update has been tested across each supported platform and this should not cause issues.

  • [Music] The game's music is now organised into radio stations which will play depending on the source DLC of the character, to better match the theme of the current stage. Some tracks overlap into multiple stations. The playlist will change after the current track ends.

  • [Music] Two music tracks from the base game have been remastered to reduce harshness and keep them in line with the other tracks.

  • [Settings] All control-related options have been moved to a new Control settings tab.

  • [Settings] "Unlock All Characters" now requires a switch toggle to be pressed, to prevent accidental activation.

  • [Settings] "Listen for Mouse Motion" is a new option that should solve certain issues where a sensitive mouse cursor interrupts gameplay. If you don't use the mouse as an input and you are having issues with the input method switching unexpectedly, disable this option.

  • [UI] An extra hint is added to the special meter's usability.

  • [UI] Stages will now always show their scene count, even if unplayed or completed.

  • [UI] Achievements from different DLCs will have different colours on the achievements list.

  • [UI] Cake's achievements are no longer secret (this was a holdover from when he was a secret character).

  • [UI] Added a new subtle visual identifier for when sweets cannot be dropped.

  • [UI] General touchups for better visual harmony.

  • [UI] If there's a timer for the stage, it is now skinned with the rest of the stage.

  • [UI] The Clear! interface now shows elapsed time.

  • [UI] We're now recording your time. The character biography now displays your best time record.

  • [Fix] Cutscene Replay can now be selected with just keyboard/controller control.

  • [Fix] Baro's artist link was pointing to an old account; this has been updated.

  • [Fix] Prevent DLCs built for older versions of Kemopop! from attempting to overwrite files, bricking the game in certain setups.

  • [Fix] Total game/game time strings would break at high values.

  • General resource cleanup.

Boys in Hawaii!

  • [Fix] Artist Page links for fisuku in the guestbook.

  • Sakura and Mamama's birthday cutscenes have been changed:

    • There were two birthday cutscenes for these characters, which was unusual. Both get played on their birthdays...!

    • The extra summer cutscenes are now new post-stage clear cutscenes that can be accessed from the biography. For now, these are unique.

What's next?

DLC 2 is under active development. Please be patient.

I am looking at getting the DLC achievements onto the Steam release. I want to make new achievement iconography. This may take a while.

  • Kemopop! Soundtrack Volume II is being planned. This will include tracks from both Boys in Hawaii! and DLC 2.

  • We are working on bringing the itch.io Art Packs to Steam as optional DLC. Look for these soon.

  • We've migrated to a self-hosted translation system and can now accept more languages for translation. Please email [email protected] if you are serious about bringing Kemopop! to your native language.
