New

  • Connection modes: automatic, prefer direct, prefer relay, or force relay.

  • Pick your relay location, sorted by latency.

  • Reusable static share code, tied to the host's Steam ID.

  • Full friends list with search, including offline and invisible players.

  • Customize the name of your hosted app shown in Steam Rich Presence.

  • Raised the limit, now you can host up to 250 players (don't).

  • Auto-approve ports now supports an allow-list.

  • Copy and paste your port list as JSON.

  • Specify port ranges, e.g. 27015-27050.

  • Copy logs straight from Porthole settings.

  • Crash reporter that sends an anonymized log, with your consent.

Improved

  • Cleaner settings, with advanced options behind a toggle.

  • Resize the members panel, or drag to hide chat. (Thanks, Mivor!)

  • Port detector updates live while open.

  • Change app name, password, or visibility while hosting, without recreating the lobby (persistent lobbies are in progress).

  • Auto-kick players with mismatching versions (unless allowed in settings); warning badge on members running a different version.

  • Shows "Connecting" during initialization, instead of "Direct" being shown as a fallback.

  • Connections ramp to full speed much faster now.

  • Improved naming for the setting that shows your hosted game in Steam Rich Presence (users were confusing it with something else).

  • Clearer messages when a connection fails.

  • Selectable chat messages, now with avatars!

Fixed

  • Friends-only and invite-only lobbies block players who aren't allowed in.

  • Automatically selects a working graphics backend. (Please report if you have issues with the default launch option)

  • Startup crash on Windows.

  • Odd names, chat messages, or app titles can no longer crash Porthole.

Major update3 Sep 2026Porthole 2.0.0: macOS, a lobby browser, and moreThis is a big one. 2.0.0 is the largest update we've shipped so far, and we're pretty happy with it. Here's what changed. Porthole is on macOS! Apple Silicon Macs are invited to the party. The same one-click hosting and joining you know from Windows and Linux, now on your Mac too. A whole lobby browser No more "what's your code?" back and forth. Browse the open lobbies, sort and filter them, an…Release11 Aug 2026The Supporter Pack is outHey everyone, For a while, people have written in asking the same thing. Porthole is free, so is there a way to give something back? Until now the answer was no. The Supporter Pack changes that. Here is the honest version. The pack locks no features away. Porthole is free today and stays free, every feature, for everyone. What it adds is cosmetic, so your friends can see you support the project…News3 Aug 2026Porthole is out nowHey everyone, Porthole is out now on Steam. Version 1.0 is here, it's free , and you can get it from the store page. A quick refresher on what it does: point Porthole at a game server on your machine and share one short code. Your friend runs Porthole too, enters the code, and reaches the server at a local address on their own machine, just like a LAN game. It runs over Steam's network, so ther…
