Nova Swarm Patch Notes: Brighter Boss Fights, Slower Slow Time

Nova Swarm · published

Follow-Up Patch – Readability, Pacing & Rewards

This follow-up patch continues the readability and pacing improvements from yesterday's Run Report / Mayhem update.

The goal is simple: make dangerous moments easier to read, reward strong runs more generously, and keep the arcade action intense without becoming visually overwhelming.

Boss Support Ships

  • Boss support calls remain random, but bosses can now arrive with a small support squad.
  • Most support events still spawn 1 helper, around 20% now spawn 2 helpers, and around 10% spawn 3 helpers.
  • Solo support helpers are now 25% stronger, ensuring single-helper encounters remain meaningful.
  • Support ships now feature clearer role-specific halos, beams, packets, endpoint rings, and boss-delivery effects, making their behavior much easier to read during combat.

Slow Time Improvements

  • Slow Time / Chrono Anchor now has a much stronger visual and gameplay impact.
  • Enemy movement, enemy bullets, boss hazards, and ambient hazards are slowed more noticeably, while your own ship remains responsive.

Boss Attack Readability

Boss attacks have received a visual clarity pass:

  • Stronger charge halos
  • Distinct attack-family colors
  • Clearer release gates
  • Enhanced muzzle bursts
  • Improved ring arcs
  • Better wall sweeps
  • More visible hazard pulses

Tractor Beam ships now feature a richer braided beam, lattice effects, and improved capture visuals.

Mini-bosses and elite enemies are now easier to distinguish across tractor, vortex, rail, hunter, shield, support, pulse, phase, carrier, and ordnance families.

Pacing & Rewards

  • Overall difficulty has been reduced slightly following the previous Mayhem relief pass.
  • Score rewards have been notched up, making strong runs feel more rewarding without resetting leaderboards or changing leaderboard identity.

Fixes & Polish

  • Elite Codex entries now correctly display Destroyed counts instead of always showing 0.
  • The Hijacker Beam warning now uses a stronger exclusive voice lock, reducing overlap with other combat callouts.
  • Achievement descriptions and validation checks have been cleaned up, making several ranked-run and score-gated requirements clearer.
