Critical Chaos Is Available Now!

The final playtest is complete. The release build is ready.

After seven years and three months of solo development, Critical Chaos is officially available on Steam!

A family, a broken squad, and a world at war.

Critical Chaos is a story-driven, turn-based RPG about reluctant heroes who never asked to save the world, but know they must fight for what is right anyway.

Inspired by the RPGs that defined the SNES and original PlayStation eras, Critical Chaos delivers a full-scale adventure built around exploration, meaningful progression, memorable characters, and the freedom to build your squad your way.

Key Features

  • A 40+ hour main story, followed by a substantial postgame and true-ending questline

  • Turn-based combat with visible encounters and no random battles

  • Deep party customization through Class changes, subclassing, stat investment, Essences, Talents, Ikons, and cross-Class skill progression

  • Turn-order management, counters, taunts, stealing, shield blocking, enemy weaknesses, and tactical skills

  • Multiple endings shaped by choices made throughout the adventure

  • Hidden quests, secret areas, powerful rewards, optional bosses, and superbosses

  • An exploration-focused world with jumping, swimming, climbing puzzles, vehicles, hidden locations, and temporal content

  • Mostly optional mining, fishing, farming, foraging, smithing, cooking, and crafting

  • Modern conveniences and reduced grinding while preserving a full old-school RPG experience

  • Optional tutorials and Quest Log guidance

  • Full controller support, customizable controls, and Steam Achievements

  • A free demo for anyone who wants to try it first

Critical Chaos is regularly priced at $14.99 and is 10% off during launch.

Thank you to everyone who played the demo, wishlisted the game, shared feedback, watched the trailers, reported bugs, or encouraged me throughout this journey.

What began as one person learning how to build an RPG has finally become a complete commercial release.

Play Critical Chaos now:

Launch Support and Bug Reporting

One person developed and supports Critical Chaos. The game has been extensively tested, but in an RPG of this size, a rare combination of choices or actions may still reveal an edge case that escaped testing.

If you encounter a problem, please use Report Bug from the title screen or navigate to Settings > System > Report Bug. You can also reach me through the Red Canopy Games Discord:

Progress-blocking problems will receive immediate priority. When I can reproduce an issue, I can typically correct it within 24 hours. More complicated problems may take longer, but I will communicate openly and keep working until they are resolved.

My support for Critical Chaos does not end at launch.
