How Shelve the Potions! was Created | Devlog

Hello everyone! Nearing our launch on the 24th of August, we wanted to share a quick Devlog on how Shelve the Potions came to be, as we have been asked a lot if AI was used or not.

No AI of any kind was used in the making of Shelve the Potions! Our 7-month-old quality manager made sure everything was up to quality every step of the way.

-Inspired by Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane, we knew we wanted to do something unique, we wanted the items to be distinct not only by color but by shape too.

We settled on Potions as they made a lot more sense.

-We found a few assets to help as the base models that we later shaped in Blender to fit our game perfectly.

-Having around 2000 potions on the ground for the first time gave a good idea of the direction we wanted to go with.

As the player can quickly complete a shelf by only targeting one color and one bottle shape, we knew we needed something to control the pacing of the progression, we needed light-hearted puzzles.

We ended up having 28 unique puzzles, some require observation, while others require collecting their pieces.

Of course, we made sure that not all puzzles are equally difficult so the player will solve them gradually, and in case anyone gets stuck on a puzzle, we made our sassy cats help by finding the items or even reveal the solution altogether.

From there, we had fun decorating every nook and cranny around the level while adding all the polish we could

Finally, we worked on our Steam capsule for weeks until we found the right fit for the game.

We wanted to have fun crafting the game as much as we hope our players will have fun playing it.

Make sure to wishlist the game and PLAY the demo

We would love to hear your feedback in our Discord (Discord Link) or Steam community.

Have a nice day and happy sorting

Knight Owl Games team.
