v0.12.0 - Bridge Creek Moore 1999 Scenario Added

Tornado: Research and Rescue · published 3 months ago

All eventsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

A basic scenario mode has been added in v0.12.0 - simply click 'Scenarios' on the main menu and choose the one you want to play. Currently the only one available right now is the May 3rd 1999 Bridge Creek Moore tornado.

If you want to edit the scenario or create your own, go to the game directory (right click the game in Steam -> Manage -> Browse local files), then navigate to TRR_Rebuild/Tornado Research and Rescue_Data/StreamingAssets/Scenarios

Each scenario lives in a directory inside of the Scenarios folder, and each scenario must have a scenario.json - this gives basic information like where the player spawns, the name and description of the scenario, start date and time etc. In addition it must have a csv file (referenced in the scenario.json file) which describes the tornado's heading, ground speed, wind speed, width, shape and an option note to display in-game.

Take a look at the bridge-creek json and csv to see how scenarios are structured.

You also have the option to play back the scenario with time compression, rather than speeding up the ground speed of the tornado, the ground path is compressed. So if you're short on time you can run through a scenario at 2.5x speed.

Tornado: Research and Game update5 Sep 2026v0.29.0 - Road Signs & Major Optimisationsv0.29.0 brings procedurally generated road signs and major optimisations to debris physics and ground scouring rendering. I was able to increase my debris limit from 400 to 1000 while streaming and saw no lag or stutter while multiple towns got impacted. I also purchased several other assets, just as a preview of what will come next: - Freight trains, train tracks and level crossings - Barns, w…In-game event1 Sep 2026v0.28.0 - Introducing Ground ScouringOnly one change in this update (v0.28.0) - ground scouring! The terrain texture is updated and vegetation is stripped from the ground, including grass, shrubs, corn and even in extreme cases leaves from trees! This adds to the atmosphere of the game, as you close in on the path of the tornado you will see evidence of the tornado's intensity. As always, enjoy! :)Tornado: Research and Game update29 Aug 2026Tutorial/Email System - v0.27.0There's been an influx of new users recently so I decided to introduce a type of in-game tutorial in v0.27.0 You will receive an email introducing you to the game and explaining basic vehicle and camera controls. Then as certain events happen (tornado touches down, a populated area gets threatened etc.) you will receive an email explaining how that game mechanic works. Hopefully this will stop…
